JOB: Golf Course Superintendent – Bowral Golf Club
Golf Course Superintendent
Bowral Golf Club | Southern Highlands, NSW
Lead the team. Lift the standard. Help shape our future.
$95,000–$105,000 per annum + superannuation
GOLF MEMBERSHIP + PHONE ALLOWANCE + FUEL ALLOWANCE
There’s something special about arriving at a golf course early and knowing the day’s playing experience starts with your team.
At Bowral Golf Club, we’re looking for a Superintendent who takes pride in that responsibility—someone with the knowledge to produce great playing surfaces, the leadership to bring people with them and the enthusiasm to keep making things better.
Established in 1901, our historic 18-hole course sits in the heart of the Southern Highlands. We’re a friendly, member-focused club with a proud history and plenty to look forward to.
An opportunity to make your mark
Reporting directly to the General Manager, you’ll lead the course maintenance team and take ownership of the course’s daily preparation, turf health and ongoing improvement.
This is a practical leadership role with scope to contribute ideas, develop your team and see the results of your work. You’ll balance time on the course with the planning, communication and resource management that keep a successful maintenance operation running.
With course improvements underway and longer-term development options being explored, you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute your expertise to future planning. Those proposals remain subject to the Club’s approval processes, while improving the course we play today remains a clear priority.
What you’ll be doing
- Delivering playing surfaces members enjoy: managing turf health, presentation and consistency across greens, tees, fairways, bunkers and surrounds.
- Building a team that takes pride in its work: setting clear expectations, developing skills and creating a positive, accountable workplace.
- Planning ahead: coordinating daily and seasonal maintenance, renovations and course preparation around the golf calendar.
- Making resources count: managing budgets, purchasing, machinery care and maintenance priorities.
- Protecting the course and its people: leading safe work practices, responsible chemical use and sound environmental management.
- Keeping people informed: working closely with Golf Operations and providing clear updates on course conditions, planned works and progress.
- Helping shape improvements: contributing practical advice on drainage, irrigation, access, facilities and future course projects.
Who we’re looking for
You’ll be a qualified turf professional who combines sound technical knowledge with initiative, good judgement and an approachable leadership style.
You’ll bring:
- A Certificate III in Sports Turf Management or equivalent recognised qualification.
- Strong golf course maintenance experience and the ability to plan and supervise work effectively.
- Practical knowledge of irrigation, drainage, turf nutrition, renovations and pest and disease management.
- Confidence leading a small team, supporting apprentices and setting high standards.
- Sound budgeting, organisation and communication skills.
- Current chemical-use competency and a driver licence.
- A willingness to be involved in daily operations and take responsibility for results.
Already a Superintendent—or ready to become one?
We welcome applications from experienced Superintendents looking for a fresh opportunity and capable Assistant Superintendents ready to lead their own operation.
Above all, we’re looking for someone who cares about the course, invests in their people and follows through on what they set out to achieve.
Why join Bowral Golf Club?
- $95,000–$105,000 per annum plus superannuation, depending on qualifications and experience.
- Complimentary BGC golf membership.
- A mobile phone allowance.
- Direct access to the General Manager and a meaningful voice in course planning.
- The opportunity to make a visible contribution to a historic club and its member experience.
- A Southern Highlands setting offering an appealing place to work and call home.
The role includes early starts, rostered weekend duties and responding to weather-related operational needs. Working arrangements will be discussed during the recruitment process.
