Sports Digital Guru Sean Callanan talks Golf with Golf Australia
Sport Geek founder Sean Callanan was guested on his podcast by John Sutherland from Golf Australia (GA), and Andrew Davies from Golf Business Forum, to look at how digital can help the game grow as it has with professional sports.
With an extensive career in IT development, and with “Sports Geek” podcast gaining international recognition among sports professionals, Sean appreciates the sports digital landscape and will join the competent team of industry leaders speaking at the Golf Business Forum 2016 in Melbourne July 25-26.
Connecting sports, fans and sponsors using technology, Sean has worked with professional teams and leagues to understand what content fans want, how to develop digital teams to deliver that content, and how to commercialise digital fans with membership, merchandise and sponsor promotions.
Talking about some of the opportunities for golf operators, golf courses and people who run golf programs on the podcast, the audience will learn how digital can better connect golf with the fans, but also with the casual golfer.
Further topics approached on the Pod is how Golf Australia is moving into the media business, how the changing media industry (and it’s dwindling resources) present an opportunity, and how GA balances tournament focus with grass roots development.
The conversation also touches upon what golf course owners and managers can learn from stadiums, why Instagram is a must use platform for golf, and who should attend the Golf Business Forum and why.
