Villa standoff at Palmer Coolum Resort
A 66-year-old grandmother is the last woman standing between MP Clive palmer and an empty resort at Palmer Coolum Resort in Yaroomba.
The situation at Clive Palmer’s flagship resort on the Sunshine Coast has reached a stalemate between the mining magnate and one determined villa shareowner, Maree Frecklington.
Maree is the last person left living on the grounds after the glamorous resort shut down along with the former PGA tour golf course and the dinosaur park earlier in March this year during a heavy decrease in visitors and guests.
Maree owns a quarter share in two resort villas and are therefore entitled to stay on the premises for three months every year, and the tenacious grandmother intends to do so, even after millionaire Clive Palmer decided to shut off her power and running water.
“I’m used to camping; Clive’s picked the wrong woman to cut off the power to,” Ms Frecklington told A Current Affair.
With the help of several friends, who are delivering bottled water and helping her do her washing, Ms Frecklington is planning on occupying the villa until next year when her stay finishes, and she is even planning on having Christmas with her grandchildren inside the resort gates.
Ms Frecklington described the situation as ridiculous but vowed to remain at her property.
“Hopefully it will all come to an end soon,” she said.
“It just can’t keep going.
“I put this under a category of abuse and intimidation.”
