JOB: General Manager – Moss Vale Golf Club
Overview
Moss Vale Golf Club Limited is located in the NSW Southern Highlands, approximately 1.5 hrs from Sydney.
The Club is currently looking for an experienced, hands-on senior manager to lead the business, with a particular focus on the 30 room Dormie House hotel and related hospitality operations.
The Role
The General Manager is responsible for directing and managing the Club business in line with the Board’s strategic plan.
The General Manager will ensure the Club is commercially oriented and financially viable through the provision of high-quality and cost-effective services to members and guests, through both the golf course, and the hotel and hospitality operation.
The position is suitable for highly experienced applicants with demonstrated people and management skills, and a customer-focussed hospitality mindset.
The Golf Club and Golf Course
- Established in 1904 and with a playing membership exceeding 600 members, Moss Vale Golf Club’s tree-lined, 18 hole par 71 Championship course is listed as a ‘Next 100 Golf Course’ by Australian Golf Digest magazine, and proud to be host of a PGA Legends Pro Am, and a PGA Associates Pro Am.
- Head Professional, Davyd Reeves runs a well-stocked Pro Shop, providing individual coaching, lessons and clinics for all ages. Practice facilities include a driving range, practice nets, chipping and putting greens.
Dormie House
- Situated right on Moss Vale Golf Course, Dormie House was established in the 1930’s. The building is an elegant heritage-listed guest house, and retains its period charm while providing all the modern amenities expected of a quality “play & stay” golf resort. Our 80-seat restaurant offers modern country cooking which showcases only the best of local produce, and casual meals are served daily on our stunning outdoor deck overlooking the 18th hole.
- The essence of the Dormie House customer experience lies in a customised, personable and attentive service delivered by our small, close-knit team to both guests of Dormie House and members of Moss Vale Golf Club.
What we are looking for:
Dormie House is currently undergoing a transformation. Nineteen suites are now fully refurbished with further work to be undertaken in 2025 including a new bar and refurbishment of the restaurant and kitchen areas. To drive this transformation, grow the business and manage our guest experience, we are seeking a ‘hands-on’, dynamic and highly experienced manager with a passion for change who is not afraid to roll their sleeves up.
Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, through the Club President, and assisted by the Manager (Club and Administration), this position oversees the Head Chef, Head Golf Professional and Course Superintendent, and also takes primary accountability for managing every facet of the Dormie House hotel and the “Dormie guest experience”. As General Manager your primary focus will be to develop and coordinate the team to provide every guest and Club member with exceptional service, whether through the provision of high-quality accommodation, excellent food and beverage operations or outstanding event management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as Secretary of the Club under the Clubs Act 1976, and ensure organisational compliance with the Act and associated regulations.
- Report to the Board, and attend monthly Board meetings
- Manage the staff of the business including rostering, wage rates, performance management, training and professional development.
- Develop and maintain operational budgets, and liaise with the Club Treasurer and external accountant in relation to financial performance of the business.
- Maintain a clean, hygienic and safe environment, and ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety regulations, the Liquor and Gaming Act, and Food Safety Laws and Legislation.
- Ensure all of the Club’s property is maintained to a standard befitting that of a high-quality “Play & Stay” accommodation destination.
- Drive a culture of service excellence across all areas including front-of-house, house-keeping, and maintenance through strong leadership of staff.
- Manage the marketing promotion of the Dormie experience to a diverse customer base spanning hotel guests, golf groups, Club members, the wider Southern Highlands community and visitors to the region.
- Take ownership of guest feedback and the ensure measurement of customer satisfaction.
- Oversee special events and functions including weddings, wakes, parties and corporate groups.
- Liaise with the Head Chef at Dormie House to create seasonal and special event menus aligned to our market segment and with an emphasis on high quality local produce.
- Work with the Manager (Club & Administration) to manage food and beverage inventories, procurement, and supplier relationships for high-quality, competitively-priced menu offerings.
Essential
- Proven experience (ideally in a golf club or resort environment) in a senior hotel or club management role.
- Demonstrated ‘hands-on’ knowledge of restaurant and bar operations.
- Leadership and mentoring skills that show the ability to energise, inspire and drive a team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong financial acumen with demonstrated ability to create and manage budgets, cost control and achievement of sales targets.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a team of hospitality staff
- Experience in procurement, inventory management and supplier relationship management.
- Strong IT skills with demonstrated experience in MS365 administration, POS (Bepoz), Deputy, Canva and Xero.
- Demonstrated experience with social media platforms such as Facebook/Meta, Instagram.
- Experience with utilisation of online booking platforms such as Expedia, booking.com, etc.
- Flexibility to work the hours/shifts required of the job including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays where necessary
- Current RSA or equivalent qualification.
- A valid Working with Children Check.
- A valid right to work full-time in Australia.
Highly Desirable
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Management or related field.
- Diploma in Hotel or Hospitality Management or equivalent.
- Advanced organisational IT, web development and social media skills
