Ambitious Outlook for New-Look Thai Course

Sikhio, Thailand: Mountain Creek Golf Course is setting its sights on becoming the number one golf resort in Thailand’s Khao Yai region.

Under the guidance of GLS Asia, Mountain Creek’s golf management consultancy, the past six months have been spent on improving the playability of the course and enhancing the service standards.

Stacey Walton, Managing Director of GLS Asia, said: “We had to initiate the changes based on the feedback from customers that the golf course was too difficult to play.”

Walton also spoke about adopting an innovative approach to sales and marketing. “Our artwork designs are refreshingly different with new and attractive promotions and we have launched an innovative ‘Golfers’ Paradise’ package,” he said.

Stuart Daly, GLS Asia’s Director of Operations, added: “We have brought about a huge difference to the entire golf experience with efficient course maintenance, improved irrigation, enhanced service training, especially for caddies, and attention to detail in all areas of operations.”

John Wither, GLS Asia PGA professional and former Asian Tour player, predicted that the changes to the course will make it a much more enjoyable experience. “Our prime objective in carrying out improvements, such as widening fairways and pruning overgrown trees, was to ensure that golfers could clearly see the greens and pin flags. The golf course superintendent maintains the course in excellent condition,” he said.

Made up of three nine-hole configurations – Creek, Valley and Highland – the course was sculpted by the late, great Spaniard Seve Ballesteros, his only design project in Thailand.

Owned by PM Group, Mountain Creek is now preparing to act as host venue to a professional event sanctioned by the MENA [Middle East and North Africa] Tour from May 9-12.
