Jakarta, Indonesia: Emeralda Golf Club has been confirmed as the venue for the 17th ASPGI (Asosiasi Superintendent Padang Golf Indonesia) Turf Management Seminar.

To be held on October 10-11, the event is expected to attract more than 100 golf course managers, course superintendents, club managers, greenkeepers and mechanics from across Indonesia.

It will be the fourth time the event had been staged in collaboration with the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF).

Among the well-known speakers will be industry stalwarts Bruce Williams, Tony Taylor, John Pryor and Wee Peng Siong, a Board Member of the AGIF.

Also imparting their words of wisdom will be Khairul Tanjung from the Landscape Architectural Association of Indonesia, Dr Rahayu, Research Lecturer from Sebelas Maret University Surakarta, Emeralda Golf Club Course Superintendent Juhana and Dr Budi Tjahyono, the ASPGI’s Chairman of the Board.

Engkos Raharjo, the ASPGI President, said: “Our association is pleased to work together with the AGIF once more to showcase speakers from home and abroad, who are experienced practitioners in their respective fields in golf course maintenance.

“This event is very much in keeping with the ASPGI’s commitment to continuous education.

“We are aware of the necessity for superintendents in Indonesia to continue to upgrade their knowledge and skills, especially in view of the rapid developments in golf course maintenance.”

Eric Lynge, the AGIF’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are delighted to be returning to Indonesia and thank Pak Engkos and the ASPGI for all their support.

“We are also grateful to the management and staff at Emeralda Golf Club for being such gracious hosts and allowing us to make use of their outstanding facilities.

“Last year’s event at Klub Bogor Raya attracted a record number of attendees, illustrating the demand for these type of educational events. We look forward to another excellent turnout in October.”

While turfgrass issues will be the focus of attention on October 10, the field day will take place on the morning of October 11, at which companies will have the opportunity to showcase their latest golf course maintenance products.

Emphasising the AGIF’s aim to support the entire industry, Lynge confirmed that the field day is open to members and non-members of the Federation.

Williams, a former President of the Golf Course Superintendents of America, will set the ball rolling on day one with a presentation entitled Effective Superintendent Communications.

Wee, the General Manager at Riverside Golf Club in Bogor, will address Using Technology for Green Turf Practices while Quality Golf founder Taylor will tackle the topic of Managing Your Team.

The subjects of Landscaping Design and Maintenance and Turf Grass will be presented by Khairul Tanjung and Rahayu.

Teeing off on day two will be Pryor, a Certified Irrigation Designer with Hydrogold. Pryor will talk about New Irrigation Technologies to Improve Performance and Reduce Costs.

Following the three-hour field demonstration, Emeralda Superintendent Juhana will make a presentation on New Turf Grass Varieties and Williams will return to the podium speaking about Trends in Renovation.

Dr Budi Tjahyono will round out the individual speakers before proceedings are wrapped up with a panel discussion.

In 2015, the AGIF organised eight Turfgrass Management Seminars and Field Days in eight different countries – China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

The ASPGI Turf Management Seminar will be the fourth event in the AGIF series of Turfgrass Management Seminars and Field Days in 2016.

March saw the staging of the AGIF Turfgrass Management Exposition in Pattaya, Thailand.

The Philippine Golf Course Management Conference took place at The Orchard Golf and Country Club at the start of May, while the Vietnam Turfgrass Management Seminar was held at the Tan Son Nhat Golf Course in July.

Following on from Indonesia, further events this year will be held in Malaysia and Taiwan.
