Heinemann Australia lands with Emirates Australian Open

POSTED ON April 6, 2017 @ 12:50 pm

HEINEMANN Tax & Duty Free has been welcomed on board as a new partner of the 2017 Emirates Australian Open, to be played at The Australian Golf Club from 23-26 November.

It begins a three-year relationship as the official airport duty free sponsor of the national championship, approaching its 102nd edition.

The Emirates Australian Open is a flagship tournament on the PGA Tour of Australasia and is jointly sanctioned with OneAsia.

“This is an exciting initiative for HEINEMANN Tax & Duty Free, particularly as we are aligning ourselves with one of the game of golf’s oldest and most important tournaments,” said Constantin Wiesmann, Managing Director at Heinemann Australia.

“We see huge value in this association particularly because of the huge attention the Emirates Australian Open has received over the past few years with many of the world’s star players having competed in the event.”

HEINEMANN Tax & Duty Free currently offers a luxury shopping experience at Sydney International Airport and there are more than 300 HEINEMANN Duty Free and Travel Value shops, fashion label boutiques under license and concept shops at 78 airports in 28 countries, along with shops at border crossings and aboard cruise liners.

“We are extremely happy to have Heinemann Australia join our select stable of sponsors and we have no doubt they will benefit greatly from this new partnership,” said Golf Australia’s chief executive Stephen Pitt.

Watched by massive galleries, American Jordan Spieth triumphed for the second time in three years in 2016 and a stellar line-up of players is expected again next summer.

Spieth took top spot after a three-way playoff with Australians Ashley Hall and Cameron Smith.

With rounds of 69, 70, 68 and 69 around The Royal Sydney Golf Club, Spieth found himself at 12 under and tied at the top alongside Hall and Smith, sending the trio back up the 18th.

The American needed just one sudden-death hole to remind us of his brilliance. His tee shot hit the middle of the fairway, his approach gave him a 6m putt for birdie and the two-time major winner made it look easy from there to again lift the champion’s Stonehaven Cup.

The Australian Open was first played in 1904. Its honour roll includes many of the world’s most distinguished golfers such as Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player.

Since 2014, the Emirates Australian Open has been one of the tournaments in the Open Qualifying Series that gives three non-exempt players entry into the following year’s Open Championship.
