Asia Golf Tourism Convention Heading to Manila

POSTED ON May 26, 2017 @ 11:13 am

Manila has been confirmed as the venue for the 7th Asia Golf Tourism Convention (AGTC).

To be staged from April 22-25, 2018, it will be the first time the convention has been held in the Philippines.

Speaking at the conclusion of the 6th AGTC in Danang, Peter Walton, Chief Executive of the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), said: “Just as with Chiang Mai last year and Danang this year, we are consistent in selecting destinations to host the event which are best poised to benefit from the attention of the world’s leading golf tour operators.

“The Philippines has a thriving and experienced golfing population and golf course infrastructure, but outside of Korea and Japan, the country’s golf courses are little known by the broader golf travelling public.

“That will all change over the coming 18 months as we showcase destinations including metro-Manila, Tagaytay, Clark and Boracay before, during and after the event.”

Walton said that IAGTO is now looking to finalise the host destinations for AGTC 2019 and 2020 as it turns its attention to the 9th annual North America Golf Tourism Convention (NAC) next month in Miami, after which it will move to Central Oregon in 2018.

Established in 2012 by IAGTO, AGTC is a three-day members-only event designed to give golf tour operators from around the globe the opportunity to meet with golf courses and resorts, hotels, receptive operators, airlines and tourist boards from golf destinations across the Asia Pacific region.

AGTC showcases a new destination each year and has previously been held in Kuala Lumpur, Pattaya, Mission Hills Haikou, Jakarta, Chiang Mai and Danang.
