Topgolf Gold Coast hits it out of the park

POSTED ON June 7, 2018 @ 2:00 pm

If you haven’t yet heard about the latest craze from the entertainment side of golf, don’t despair, here’s everything you need to know. Golf Industry Central attended the Topgolf soft opening on Tuesday night. The event was a “practice run” for event organisers and their reportedly large team of over 600 s.

Driving to or from the Gold Coast in the future you might want to consider making a stop at Oxenford, right between Village Roadshow Studios and Warner Bros. Movie World. In one weeks’ time the doors will officially swing open to Australia’s “biggest and baddest” virtual driving range and entertainment venue, Topgolf, and you don’t want to miss out!

After almost two years in the making and with anticipation now having reached a fever pitch among keen Gold Coasters and avid golfers, the time has finally arrived on June 15 for the Australian public to put the popular golf-meets-your-favorite-local-bar concept to the very test.

The experience is the next big thing to ten-pin bowling– on steroids. With a large rooftop terrace, decked out with fire pits and live music on weekends, the regular pub/club goer will easily find their feet regardless of their level of golfing expertise.

The three-leveled venue has made space for 30 modern, climate-controlled playing “bays” per floor (90 in total), allowing for up to six players at any given bay. On screens you select any of the eight games available including Top Scramble, Top Pressure and Top Shot, and the micro-chipped golf balls will determine your accuracy and distance, and subsequently, your level of skill.

Pace of play? Nope. Take all the time you want (bays are rented by the hour) and no need to drag your own clubs around either, Topgolf provides clubs for both men and women, but also for kids and the odd-playing lefty if needed. However, if you’re set to win with your own club in hand, you’re welcome to bring your own set, too.

With an emphasis on service and convenience, Topgolf will provide you and your group with a host, or hostess, for the night, catering to your every need and making food and beverage ordering dangerously easy with the possibility of a private bar set-up in any space. Adding on the reasonable pricing of $7-8 for a beer or wine by the glass will make this place as cheap as any– at happy hour rates!

As with most good things in life the Topgolf experience is better shared. The entire Topgolf set-up seems to be a case of “the more the merrier” as it is tailored to accommodate any type and sized group and event. Each level has a VIP section available for hire for larger parties where 24 competitive party-goers can hit simultaneously while others are enjoying any of the affordable food and drink packages.

So if you‘re not sure what to do on a Friday night (unlikely on the Gold Coast, but anyway) Topgolf has got you covered. Even if golf is not your cup of tea or where your talent lies, this is the place for you. With an amped-up atmosphere, friendly staff and a wide selection of drinks and food items, Topgolf is sure to not disappoint.

Tip: The chef’s pick of dessert– the doughnut fries with three types of dipping sauces– is reason alone to check this place out.

And what’s even better news? The $35 million Golf Coast destination is only the first of eight that Village Roadshow hopes to open in Australia within a near future.

Rumour has it that Topgolf might be opening at a Sydney venue next, but it is yet to be confirmed..

About TopGolf

With more than 8 million annual visitors worldwide, Topgolf is the global leader in sports entertainment and is currently putting golf clubs in more hands than any other company in the golf space.

In a few short years after its launch in the early 2000’s, Topgolf transformed the traditional driving range into a full-scale entertainment venue, offering punters fun point-scoring golf games for all skill levels while serving food and drinks.

Last year, the sports entertainment giant reportedly facilitated on average 35,000 visitors per day at its 41 big-box locations around the world and the company is now adding about one new location per month – with plans to develop sites in Mexico, Canada and Dubai next.
