Minjee Lee takes top honour at WA Golf Industry Gala Dinner

POSTED ON March 17, 2019 @ 3:08 pm

Minjee Lee’s successful 2018 season was recognised on Friday night when she won the Outstanding Golf Achievement Award, sponsored by Nexus Risk Services and NGI, at the Western Australian Golf Industry Gala Dinner, held at Perth Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The highlight of Minjee’s season came when she won the Volvik Championship on the LPGA Tour. Lee’s outstanding run of form in 2018 saw her rise to a World Ranking of 5, having begun the year ranked 19th.

Ritchie Smith of Melville Glades Golf Club, who coaches Lee, was named PGA Coach of the Year.

It was fitting that on International Women’s Day, Minjee Lee was one of four women acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to Western Australian golf.

The MiClub Employee of the Year Award was presented to Michelle Miller in recognition of growth in membership at Mount Lawley Golf Club.

Michelle’s dedication to her role and commitment to mentoring new members has created a wonderful culture within the club.

Cathy Cocks, also of Mount Lawley Golf Club was acknowledged as the winner of the Bowra & O’Dea Volunteer of the Year Award.

Cathy was instrumental in helping Mount Lawley Golf Club celebrate its 90th year in style as well as coordinating volunteers for the 2018 WA Open.

Max Hannah, who boasts a 40-year tenure in golf and Dianne Tomlin with 25-years in the industry were joint recipients of the WA Golf Industry Recognition Award.  Both were credited for forming a unified amateur golfing body in Western Australia.

GolfWA would like to congratulate all award winners and nominees for their outstanding commitment to the Western Australian golfing industry in 2018.

Thanks also to Dixie Marshall for her role as host and MC on the night.
