POSTED ON November 30, 2020 @ 7:20 pm

Oh Sang-junOh Sang-jun, a prominent figure in golf in South Korea for more than two decades, has been appointed as a Senior Advisor to the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF).

In his role, Oh will represent the AGIF, the region’s umbrella golfing body, in South Korea, one of the world’s most dynamic golfing markets.

As well as being an expert in resort master-planning, golf course architecture and construction management, 50-year-old Oh has extensive experience in running golf tournament and overseeing golf club operations.

Expanding Education

As an Advisor to the AGIF in South Korea, not only will Oh seek to recruit new members, but he’ll also work on expanding the educational programmes currently offered by the Federation in club management and turfgrass management.

He will also assist the AGIF in conducting research on the golf market in South Korea.

Eric Lynge, the AGIF’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “Jun is widely respected in the global golfing industry. We look forward to building the golf industry in Korea with Jun’s counsel and assistance. Together, we feel certain we can establish a strong base for the AGIF in South Korea and bring a wealth of knowledge and educational programmes to support South Korea’s expanding golf market.”

Golf Design Experience

Oh’s academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture (University of Washington, 1997), Master of Architecture (Columbia University, 2000) and Master of Science in Golf Course Architecture (University of Edinburgh, 2005).

Having worked in golf course design for more than a decade, Oh joined Gale International in 2014 and assumed responsibility for overseeing operations at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea where he supervised preparations for the 2015 Presidents Cup.

In 2017, he joined CJ Logistics E&C Resort Division where he liaised with the PGA Tour on the operational management of the CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges and was involved with the set-up of the Nine Bridges Forum, an annual golf industry seminar.

Oh said: “With more than 500 courses and six million players, South Korea is now acknowledged as the world’s third largest golf market, after the United States and Japan.

“The Asian Golf Industry Federation has much to offer for companies and individuals in the golf field in South Korea. Via the AGIF, there is tremendous opportunity and potential for them to network and grow their brands around the region. I’m excited to see what can be achieved.”
