Asian Debut of DP World Golf Ball Container

POSTED ON May 3, 2023 @ 5:50 pm

DP World’s ‘Second Life’ container of golf balls made its return on the DP World Tour at this week’s Korea Championship Presented by Genesis at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club.

As a global logistics expert, DP World leverages its logistics and supply chain network to transport the container to key events around the world on the DP World Tour and has already collected more than 130,000 golf balls over the course of the DP World Tour.

The initiative supports DP World’s partnership and grass-roots goals which aims to grow golf globally, drive positive community impact and make the sport more accessible.

This is the first time the container has visited Asia as the DP World Tour returns to South Korea for the first time in a decade. The container has been transported to the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon via Unico [a DP World company] and will continue its journey across Europe via DP World’s high-tech PNC terminal at Busan Port following the event.

To mark this special event, DP World has confirmed the attendance of local children’s golf academy, ViseN Academy, as special guests at the Korea Championship.

The juniors will be given a guided tour of the event to learn about the container, donate some golf balls and take part in the DP World ‘Long Putt Challenge’ in the fan zone.

Fans and attendees at this week’s Korea Championship are being encouraged to donate any used and unwanted golf balls to the collection as part of the week, where prizes such as golf clubs and trips to other DP World Tour events will be on offer.

The balls collected this season will be donated to worthy grass-roots golf projects around the world to grow the game further. DP World is focusing on three key areas of growth for the sport – golf for the disabled, junior golf and women’s golf – hoping to inspire and encourage more people to take up the sport.

Daniel van Otterdijk, Chief Communications Officer at DP World, said: “As one of our key business markets, we are thrilled that the DP World Tour is visiting South Korea for the first time in 10 years.

“When we became title partner of the Tour in 2022, one of DP World’s objectives was to help grow the game of golf globally and we are pleased to have had an impact in bringing the DP World Tour back to South Korea, together with our partners at the Tour and the Korean PGA.

“With our Second Life container initiative it will be fantastic to make an impact in another part of the world, having already supported grass-roots golf projects in India, Kenya, South Africa and across Europe.”

The field at the inaugural US$2 million Korea Championship Presented by Genesis, co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the Korean PGA, includes three-time DP World Tour winner and Seoul-native Wang Jeung-hun as well as DP World Tour stars and Ryder Cup hopefuls Robert MacIntyre, Rasmus Højgaard and Adrian Meronk.

Ben Cowen, Chief Tournament Business Officer at DP World Tour, said: “The DP World Tour is delighted to be coming back to South Korea for the inaugural Korea Championship Presented by Genesis and working with DP World as part of our smart partnership to help grow the game.

“The DP World Tour has stops all over the world, and it is great to see the second life container arriving in Asia with us for the first time.”
