JOB: General Manager – Windross Farm Golf Course

About

Windross Farm Golf Course, one of the premier golf facilities in New Zealand and located 25km south of the Auckland CBD, is looking for a new General Manager to lead the club.

This contemporary facility and club, which provides a modern, progressive, and stable environment to learn and grow. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to make a positive contribution, to promote their career in club administration while maintaining a favourable work/life balance.

The club is in a financially sound position enabling the Board of Management to continue to improve the course, operations and overall experience for its members, guests, and visitors. We are looking for a friendly, motivated, and engaging individual who can collaborate with the Board to drive the club’s ambitions while overseeing the day-to-day operations and leading our team.

The role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the overall financial performance of the club, driving positive membership experiences and ensuring the business goals and statutory requirements are met – also, the achievement of the club’s strategic objectives. This includes responsibility for managing the club in a commercially orientated manner and a focus on long-term viability, leading revenue diversification opportunities, providing high-level customer services, and prudent cost management controls. This incorporates but is not limited to the following:

  • Effective financial management of the club and its operational areas, including budget development and controls, preparation of management accounts for governance review, monitors and recommends investment fund activities, and supports external accounting and audit.
  • Promotes and leads exceptional service levels across golf, retail and hospitality divisions.
  • Promotes and markets membership opportunities and ensures a positive member/guest experience is at the centre of all decision-making.
  • Able to identify organisational opportunities with a keen understanding of golf industry trends and market dynamics to drive priorities for the Club. Ensures compliance with all statutory and government bodies, including Inland Revenue, Health & Safety at Work, and Liquor Licencing.
  • A desire and proven ability to meet and exceed the Club’s strategic objectives and goals, while also improving personal knowledge, capability, and stakeholder relationships.
  • An ability to challenge the status quo and be an industry thought leader.
  • Responsible for human resources management and promotes a thriving and engaged workplace culture.
  • Performs the management duties for the Board of Management and Committees.
  • Maintains the Club’s adopted Rules, By-Laws and Regulations, and ensures appropriate implementation of golf rules and club standards.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Tertiary Education in Sports Management/ or Business & Commerce/ or Hospitality & Tourism disciplines.
  • Experience in Senior Management role/s and working with club governance.
  • Sound written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A high attention to detail and an eagerness lead and implement change.
  • Has a ‘hands-on’ management style and ability to lead by example.
  • Strong commercial acumen and notable project and/or event management knowledge.
  • Passion for the golf industry and an appetite to build their personal profile in the wider community.
