The R&A Acquires 100% Ownership of Golf Technology Specialist DotGolf

POSTED ON July 3, 2026 @ 5:54 pm

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – The R&A has officially acquired the remaining 50% stake in golf technology firm DotGolf from Golf New Zealand, taking full ownership of the company. The move follows The R&A’s initial purchase of a 50% interest in August 2023.

DotGolf is a specialist golf technology business that collaborates with national federations globally to build digital tools designed to grow the game. Despite the full acquisition, DotGolf – which currently employs 55 people – will continue to operate as a standalone business with its own independent executive leadership, governance, and operations.

The acquisition is aimed at accelerating DotGolf’s core mission to create technology that makes golf more accessible, enjoyable, and sustainable worldwide. The full ownership structure will allow The R&A to invest further in DotGolf’s technology pipeline to support these global goals.

Since The R&A’s initial investment in 2023, DotGolf has expanded its international footprint, introducing multi-language capabilities. The company now serves 21 national golf federation customers and supports more than 2.5 million golfers globally.

Leadership Perspectives

Mark Darbon, Chief Executive of The R&A, emphasized the strategic importance of the acquisition for the global game:

“The R&A’s purpose is to open golf to the world and we are committed to making long-term investments in technology, data and digital capability to benefit national federations and golfers worldwide. This acquisition is an exciting next step and we look forward to seeing DotGolf continue to develop tools that keep growing the game.”

Darbon also acknowledged the foundational work of the previous co-owners:

“I would like to recognise Golf New Zealand’s role in establishing and growing DotGolf since 1999. DotGolf has always had national federations at its heart and Golf New Zealand has been pivotal in designing the platform around the needs of national federations. We thank them for their partnership in building something that has genuinely benefited the game.”

Jeff Latch, CEO of Golf New Zealand, expressed pride in the platform’s journey from a local initiative to a global solution:

“We are enormously proud of the achievements of Dean Murphy, Matt Smith and the team at DotGolf for taking a kiwi tech company successfully onto the world stage. We look forward, as a customer, to seeing DotGolf continuing to grow and through its products enabling federations like us to grow the game of golf.”
