JOB: General Manager – Launceston Golf Club

About

The Launceston Golf Club in Tasmania wishes to appoint a General Manager to replace their retiring General Manager. The Club has 800 Members with annual turnover of $1.9m.

The Club is entering an exciting phase of their 125-year history with significant investment being undertaken on the course including a new state-of-the-art irrigation system scheduled for installation in 2025, investment in new greens and tees along with upgrades around the clubhouse and associated infrastructure.

The Role

The General Manager reports directly to the Club President and will liaise with the Club Captain and other Directors as required. They will be directly responsible for the sustainability, profitability and performance of the Club along with the management of the course, administration, bar, functions, events and golfing activity, including the overseeing of competitions and corporate golf days.

Overseeing the operations and timely delivery of information and services necessary for the efficient running of the entire Club- (including, but not limited to, financial monitoring, reporting, and club/course salaries and wages administration).

It is the expectation of the Board that the General Manager will proactively interact with Club Members and visitors, including during times of golf play. This will involve supplementary work in the bar area, liaison with Social Clubs and Function Organisers (including Corporate Days) and the Contract Catering Staff.

Critical to success in the role, the General Manager will maintain a strong forward plan to ensure club operations, functions (club or external organisations), corporate golf days, competitions, critical planning activities, board meetings, resource allocation (and other as appropriate) are undertaken to achieve maximum effectiveness. The Board and (as appropriate) members will be kept fully abreast of such forward plans.

Required Skills and Attributes

  • Strong financial knowledge and financial management skills, including the ability to analyse financial statements and report to the Board on the (entire) Club’s financial performance.
  • Relevant industry and regulatory knowledge (not necessarily in the club industry, but a demonstrated ability to quickly learn this).
  • Ability to proactively engage with golfers, golfing, and social members.
  • a keen interest in, or strong affinity with golf (preferred) to manage divergent views across a large membership group and diverse business partners (including sponsors).
  • Ability to think “outside the square” and consider non-traditional approaches to successful club management and performance.
