‘Fun 5’ Is Captivating A New Generation at Hepburn Golf Club

POSTED ON May 3, 2025 @ 4:41 pm

The golf addiction continues to grow across Australia, but it’s a unique new format called ‘Fun 5’ at Hepburn Golf Course, which is attracting newcomers in their droves.

This is the ultimate activity for a good time.  Rock up, dress for comfort, and come with a smile.  Hepburn Golf Course, near Daylesford, Victoria has it sorted.

Ian Denny, managing director of Golf Services Management, who owns and operates Hepburn Golf, says it’s about being social, not focusing on the scorecard. “Everyone has to start somewhere, and it’s about being comfortable in a relaxed environment, which is a key part of the Daylesford tourism market.”

Participants tee off on five holes that are located close to the clubhouse, allowing them to complete the round in about an hour and a half. The Fun 5 is available inclusive of rental equipment if needed, including four clubs, balls and tees.

The best part is that there are no rules, “Everything’s very casual up here at Hepburn, and it really is designed for those that just want to go out and have some fun. If your ball goes in a bunker, throw it out. If you lose a golf ball, it doesn’t matter, hit another one,” Ian says.

Golf in Australia is riding a wave of unprecedented growth.  It appears there is a real appetite, particularly for women, who are time poor but want to play golf.

However, not many places offer this.  Booking a tee time on a website can be tricky to navigate, and what if you don’t have a handicap?   Ian Denny says there are often so many obstacles before you even pick up a golf club. “It’s our job to create the right environment and make the game more appealing. We’re trying to do this at Hepburn.”

One thing is clear, the golf movement is growing.  With the Fun 5 concept, Hepburn is certainly ahead of the game.
