$6 Million Marrickville Golf Club Redevelopment is officially underway
The long-anticipated transformation of Marrickville Golf Club is officially underway, with Inner West Council and Marrickville Golf, Sporting and Community Club set to begin the design phase of a major $6 million clubhouse renovation, funded by the Albanese Government.
Located in one of Sydney’s most densely populated areas, Marrickville Golf Club is a cherished community asset and home to one of the most accessible public courses in the country. The clubhouse serves not only as the social heart of the club but as a critical gathering space for local groups and cultural events. Although well-maintained, the facility is long overdue for a comprehensive refurbishment.
The Federal Government’s $6 million commitment will enable a complete transformation of the clubhouse, delivering modern, accessible facilities and a more inclusive and versatile venue for golf, sport, and community life.
Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said Council has moved quickly to ensure the project maintains momentum.
“Marrickville Golf Club is the people’s course — more accessible and affordable than any other golf facility in the country,” said Mayor Byrne.
“The clubhouse is in desperate need of renovation, and thanks to the Albanese Government, its future is now secure. We’re fast-tracking the design phase with Council funding to make sure this upgrade delivers more opportunities for sport, recreation, and live entertainment for everyone in our community.”
The upgrade will also enhance the venue’s capacity to host a wider range of events — from local cultural festivals to live performances and junior sports development.
Andrew Tighe, President of Marrickville Golf, Sporting and Community Club, said the announcement marks a defining moment for the future of the club.
“This is a very exciting time. The funding allows us to upgrade our facilities in a way that reflects our community values and ambitions,” said Tighe.
“We’ve always been a club that puts the community first — open access, cultural inclusivity, and environmental responsibility are at the core of what we do. This redevelopment ensures we can continue serving the Inner West for decades to come.”
Design work will commence immediately, with construction timelines to follow in late 2025.
