Leeton Golf Course Records First Operating Profit Since 2012

Leeton Golf Course has achieved its first net operating profit since Leeton Shire Council took over the management and operation of the facility in 2012.

An update delivered at Council’s July Ordinary Meeting confirmed that the course generated a net operating profit of $1,356 for the 2025/26 financial year. The result outperformed initial projections, which had anticipated a budgeted operating deficit of $41,000.

Player Participation and Membership Growth

The financial turnaround was driven by a rise in course usage. A total of 19,404 rounds of golf were played throughout the year, marking an increase of 1,188 rounds, or 6.5 per cent, compared to the 2024/25 period.

Josh Clyne, Council’s Manager Open Space & Recreation, attributed the financial performance to steady growth and course maintenance.

“The golf course continues to go from strength to strength, with participation increasing and membership remaining steady,” Mr Clyne said.

“It has been particularly encouraging to see more young people getting involved, with five (5) additional junior memberships and two (2) additional memberships in the 18 to 29 age group.”

Key Drivers of the Financial Result

The positive operating balance was achieved despite the full integration of utility costs into the budget for the first time.

“Recording the first net operating profit since Council assumed responsibility for the facility is a significant achievement, particularly as this is the first year that irrigation water consumption has been fully recognised in the operating result,” Mr Clyne said.

“The commencement of Golf Clubhouse operations in October 2025 has also increased participation and activity at the course.”

Volunteer Contributions

The report also detailed the impact of community involvement on the course’s operations. Between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026, 32 active volunteers contributed a total of 842 hours. Volunteer duties included watercourse management, mowing, slashing, tree planting, branch removal, bunker maintenance, fairway turf repairs, and weed spraying.

Cr Tracey Morris acknowledged the volunteer workforce during the meeting.

“The time and effort contributed by our volunteers plays an important role in maintaining the course to such a high standard,” Cr Morris said.
