NZ: Te Awamutu Golf Club Proposes Plan Change to Fund Course Redevelopment
The public is being invited to give feedback on a proposed plan change that would allow residential development on part of the Te Awamutu Golf Course.
Te Awamutu Golf Club Incorporated has lodged an application for Private Plan Change 34, seeking to rezone approximately 16.2 hectares of its 65-hectare rural-zoned site at Kihikihi Road and Golf Road to Medium Density Residential. The request requires an amendment to the Waipā District Plan.
The proposal is now open for public submissions.
Land Sale to Address Safety and Infrastructure Issues
According to its application, the club intends to use proceeds from the land sale to acquire adjoining land and complete a full redevelopment of the golf course.
Operating at the site between Te Awamutu and Kihikihi since the early 1930s, the club stated that the existing course layout creates ongoing safety risks from golf balls landing on the road. Additionally, the site suffers from drainage problems that cannot be resolved without expanding its boundaries.
The redevelopment proposal incorporates recreational reserve areas and stormwater management wetlands.
Council Calls for Public Submissions
Waipā District Council’s district plan and growth manager, Wendy Robinson, highlighted the importance of community input during the public notification process.
