Inferno Destroys Clubhouse at Popular Bundoora Park Golf Course
An inferno has torn through the clubhouse at a popular northern suburbs (Victoria) golf course, completely gutting the single-storey brick building in a late-night blaze.
Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews were alerted by multiple Triple Zero calls around 10:00 pm on Saturday, arriving at the Plenty Road facility to find the Bundoora Park Public Golf Course clubhouse fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus launched an aggressive external attack using multiple high-pressure hose lines to battle the intense fire consuming the 20-by-20-metre structure. It took crews approximately two hours to bring the blaze under control, with firefighters remaining on site overnight to damp down hotspots and ensure it was fully extinguished.
No one was inside the building at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the blaze remains undetermined. Specialist investigators from FRV’s Fire Investigation Unit, including an arson chemist, along with detectives from Victoria Police’s Arson and Explosives Squad, are attending the scene to conduct a comprehensive forensic examination.
Witnesses and nearby residents took to social media overnight, describing dramatic scenes and loud explosions.
“We heard two big bangs from Mill Park,” one local wrote.
An employee posted online confirming the extent of the damage: “I work at the golf course and the pro shop has been burnt down, completely gone.”
Another patron shared their heartbreak, writing: “Oh no, I am so sad about this. I love it at Bundoora Park.”
Despite the devastation, management confirmed the course itself will welcome players, while other amenities remain shut down for cleanup and safety assessments.
“Most importantly, we’re relieved to confirm that everyone is safe,” the club said in a statement via social media.
“The golf course remains open, however bookings are currently available online only. All other facilities including the golf shop, driving range, and food truck are closed for today.”
Management urged the public not to visit the site to view the aftermath.
“We know there may be some curiosity about what’s happened, but we kindly ask that if you don’t have a booking, please avoid visiting the venue today,” the club stated. “This will allow emergency services and our team the space they need to safely manage the situation.”
Anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
