2011 mens and womens state team announced

Golf West Australia announcement;

 

The 2011 Men’s and Women’s State Teams to compete in the Australian Interstate Teams Matches here in Western Australia in September were announced following the third round of the Men’s Pennant Competition on Sunday July 3 and the final round of the Women’s Pennant competition on Monday July 4 respectively. The teams are:-

Men’s State Team

Ray CHOW Gosnells Golf Club

Michael DENNIS (Captain) Royal Perth Golf Club

Oliver GOSS Royal Fremantle Golf Club

Daniel HOEVE Kwinana Golf Club

Brody NINYETTE Joondalup Country Club

Ryan PEAKE Lakelands Country Club

Cruze STRANGE Royal Perth Golf Club

Brady WATT Royal Perth Golf Club

Craig BISHOP – Coach

Chris SCOLARI – Manager

Ray Chow, runner up in this year’s State Amateur Championship and Cruze Strange, the City of Perth Champion will both be making their State Team debut.

Michael Dennis, the recent recipient of the 2010 – 2011 Paxton Average title is also the current Mandurah Easter Amateur Open Champion will be representing the State for the 9th time at the Open level and will Captain the team.

Oliver Goss, currently the third ranked male junior in Australia following wins in the Handa Australia Cup, the Nedlands Junior Masters and the Royal Fremantle Open will be competing in his second Interstate Series. As will Daniel Hoeve and Ryan Peake while Brody Ninyette and Brady Watt will be competition in their 3rd and 5th Interstate Series respectively.

The Men’s team will be coached for the first time by former State player Craig Bishop and the event will be played Royal Perth Golf Club. The team will be trying to win the Interstate Series for the first time since 1999.

Hayley Bettencourt, currently the fifth ranked female junior in Australian will be making her Open team debut. Hayley was the runner up at the recent Australian Girls Amateur Championship in Sydney.

Rhianna Davies will be also representing Western Australia at the Singapore Ladies Open in August and is competing in her third Interstate Series, as is Whitney Harvey, runner up in last year’s WA State Amateur Championship.

Whitney Hillier joins the team as the most experienced member in the Interstate Series. Hillier was a member of the Australian team that recently won the Teams event at St. Andrews. She will be making her 6th appearance.

National Squad members Min Jee Lee and Jessica Speechley will round out an impressive WA team looking to repeat their performance of 2005, the last time the Series was held in Western Australia, when they won the Gladys Hay Cup. Min Jee Lee, currently the number one female junior player in Australia took out the Handa Junior Masters earlier this year and was a member of the Australian Team which recently competed in the Astor Cup in England.

Jessica Speechley, will be making her fourth appearance for WA in the Gladys Hay Cup and is the number one ranked female amateur in Australia. Speechley has had another stellar year in amateur competition and recently captured a Karrie Webb Series Scholarship for the second consecutive year.

The Women’s Interstate Series will be played at the Western Australian Golf Club.
