Golf Australia supports Anti-Racism campaign

POSTED ON March 20, 2013 @ 10:00 am

Golf Australia has announced its support of the Australian Human Rights Commission’s “Racism. It Stops with Me campaign. Over the next three years the campaign aims to ensure more Australians recognise that racism is unacceptable in our community and give more Australians, at an individual and organisational level, the tools and resources to take practical action against racism and to empower individuals and organisations to prevent and respond effectively to racism wherever it may happen. Speaking on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Golf Australia Game Development Director Cameron Wade said the campaign would resonate in the golfing community.“Golf has prided itself on being an inclusive sport where people of all backgrounds can get involved at all levels and enjoy what the sport has to offer without encountering racial discrimination, Wade said. “Golfers are passionate about their sport’s reputation and the benefits to their local communities and Golf Australia will support the strategy’s aim to promote a clear understanding in the Australian community of what racism is, and how it can be prevented and reduced. The Strategy has been developed through a partnership led by the Race Discrimination Commissioner, a member of the Australian Human Rights Commission, which draws on the expertise of the following government and community bodies: the Department of Immigration and Citizenship; the Attorney-General’s Department; the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs; the Australian Multicultural Council; the National Congress of Australia’s First Peoples and the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia.
