About the club

The Shepparton Golf Club is located in the Goulburn Valley, 200 km north of the Melbourne CBD and is a highly rated sand-based golf course. The Shepparton Golf Club has an active membership of 875 members which includes a Golfing Membership of 758 Playing Members across 12 categories.

Shepparton Golf club is a busy club with six competition days each week and a range of other social golf programs on its 6,036 metre course, with a slope rating of 128 off the Blue Tees, Par 72, and 5,301 metre course rated 123,Par 73, of the Red tees. Membership levels are now 820 members and they have had 23,900 rounds for the 6 months to December so rounds will end up approx. 40,000 plus.

The Club operates a 12 room motel which attracts many Stay & Play golfers to the club which helps to drive our very successful Food & Beverage business. The club has no gaming or Tab facilities.

Shepparton Golf Club seeks to appoint a suitably qualified PGA Member to the position of Head Golf Professional to operate and manage the Pro Shop operations and associated services by either a contractual arrangement (‘as a contractor’) or through direct employment by the Club.

About the role

The Shepparton Golf Club committee seeks a PGA Professional who is well presented, honest, reliable, organised, self-motivated with a good work ethic and has a willingness to become involved in the club’s programs and activities. Most importantly the successful candidate will be capable of displaying exceptional communication skills together with a high level of customer service.

Selection Criteria:

• Experience in golf club operations including managing timesheets for members and guests
• Sound business acumen with commercial and financial competence to manage a retail offering
• Ability to provide qualified golf tuition to all levels of golfers
• A willingness to also foster development with junior golf and associated programs
• Ability to increase Women’s participation through a variety of clinics and programs
• Skilled in offering a club fitting and repair service • Excellent personal presentation and communication skills
• A willingness to develop programs encouraging new members and consolidating existing ones
• Knowledge and experience with MiClub Golf booking system will be highly regarded.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Operate the Golf Shop 7 days per week excluding Christmas Day
• The collection of Green Fees, Competition Fees and Hire Fees
• Starting and coordinating competition fields • Managing all social play and competition timesheets
• Manage the day to day operations of the club-owned golf carts
• Provide exceptional customer service to members and visitors
• Development and coordination of the club’s new and successful junior and ladies golf programs
• Exclusively provide tuition for club members and non-members for a reasonable fee
• Exclusively provide and/or manage a range of retail equipment, accessories and clothing supplies for the pro shop
• Supervise the dress standard of players and practice facility operations.
• Provides a course marshaling service to ensure the pace of play during competition days
• Where possible, play golf with Club Members
• Assist in the promotion of the club, its facilities, and membership options
• Attend regular golf-related meetings as requested

Remuneration & Entitlements:

Under a contractor arrangement, a package made up of a service fee retainer plus commission splits would be negotiated. Under an employed model, an attractive salary would be offered under the provisions of the Registered and Licenced Clubs Award.

• 27,216 rounds for the year (note 6 week shutdown due to Covid – 19 restrictions)
• $141,521 in total green fees
• $81,342 in cart rental fees * $137,959 in Competition fees
