Kwinana Golf Course Set for Multimillion-Dollar Community Transformation

POSTED ON July 14, 2026 @ 1:15 pm

KWINANA — A massive transition is coming to one of the region’s premier sporting facilities. The City of Kwinana has officially unveiled its long-term vision to transform the Kwinana Golf Course into a major, multi-use community recreation destination.

Following a decisive vote at the June Ordinary Council Meeting, the City will take over direct management of the course to secure its long-term sustainable future. According to Mayor Peter Feasey, the intervention comes at a critical time; the current clubhouse, aging irrigation system, and supporting infrastructure are rapidly approaching the end of their useful life and require significant capital investment.

To revitalize the space and attract a broader demographic, the City is exploring several major additions to the facility, including:

  • A technology-enabled driving range to offer modern, data-tracked practice and entertainment.
  • A 9-hole executive course under lights, allowing for evening play and flexibility for busy residents.
  • Mini golf facilities designed specifically to cater to families and beginners.
  • An upgraded clubhouse featuring modern function spaces and expanded hospitality offerings.

Club Identity and Ratepayer Impact Assured

The announcement of the transition has sparked widespread discussion online, with some residents expressing immediate concerns regarding the future of the existing club, its staff, and the potential impact on council rates.

City officials were quick to address these anxieties. Councillor Balian Miller clarified that the Kwinana Golf Club operates completely separate from the physical course management. The club will remain firmly in place to handle memberships, coordinate competitions, and preserve the course’s rich community culture.

Addressing the financial apprehensions of locals, Councillor Miller also confirmed that the golf course is entirely self-supporting. Any massive redevelopment approved down the line would be funded via a self-supporting loan. This loan will be paid back progressively using profits generated by the new and existing facilities, ensuring that standard ratepayer funds are not diverted to bankroll the operations.

Next Steps for Players and Residents

Golfers and community members will not notice any immediate disruptions. The City has assured the public that there will be no sudden changes to public access, day-to-day operations, or existing bookings.

Furthermore, the ambitious redevelopment plans are not yet set in stone. The City of Kwinana emphasized that any final overhaul will only proceed following detailed architectural and financial planning, alongside extensive community consultation to ensure the facility meets the needs of all residents.
