Social Golf Australia’s Matthew Pitt talks about dealing with grief on the Woke Blokes podcast

Recently, Managing Director of Social Golf Australia (SGA) was a guest on the Woke Blokes podcast to talk about how he dealt with grief after the devastating loss of his wife and the subsequent rebuilding of his life.

In what is a heart-wrenching but feel-good listen, Matt shares some personal insight into his life in a truly extraordinary conversation, and provides some very important guidance for anyone struggling with mental health or dealing with grief.

The Woke Bloke Podcast is hosted by Nick Sutherland from MyndFit, a community helping people become mentally fitter, stronger and healthier by training the mind to think differently. Also on the episode is Ryan Hassan from The Centre for Healing.

Golf as a great metaphor

Matt starts of the conversation by talking about how he lost his wife Sally to breast cancer a few years ago, and how he had promised her that he would get mentally and physically fit to take care of their children after her passing.

The group then talks about how in life you have to the challenges and adversities you might encounter and how you need to be proactive in your own life to get to where you want to be.

Being the Managing Director of Social Golf Australia, Matt compares his way of grieving to golf.

The realisation for Matt that there are things in life, just as in golf, that you can or cannot control, and being able to focus on what you can control, helped him navigate through what can almost be considered impossible.

Over the course of an hour, Matt talks about the stages of grief you go through when losing someone significant, and how he and his wife tackled the process of being transparent with the children about illness and her subsequent death.

Matt also talks about the important part golf plays in his life and how Social Golf Australia has worked as a caring community, not only for him but for people that join the various events every year.
