JOB: General Manager – Wyong Golf Club
The Club
Wyong Golf Club is situated on the beautiful NSW Central Coast, located 1.5 hours North of Sydney and only a 15-minute drive off the M1 Pacific Motorway.
The area is currently undergoing rapid population growth, which has become a popular holiday destination for families and golfers and provides many opportunities for the club.
The Wyong area hosts a vibrant events calendar that includes The Entrance Winter Blues and Jazz Festival and The Lakes Festival, as well as markets, shows, live music events, and a wine festival.
The Club has an annual revenue turnover of close to $5 million and occupies approximately 65 acres of pristine land, has 1,200 golfing members, 4,500 social members, and over 60 staff.
The club’s facilities include:
- An outstanding 18-hole golf course, with the Golf Shop currently being completely renovated,
- Restaurant (110 Seat) operated by the club,
- Gaming Facilities including 47 EGMs (and entitlements), Tab & Keno,
- Up to 60,000 rounds of golf are played on the course annually,
- Social activities and functions in the club on most days,
- Plans are being prepared for upgrading the course and the clubhouse within a 5-year timeframe,
- The Club also has a strong culture of community cooperation and a focus on customer satisfaction.
The Role
The Board of Directors is now seeking applications for the role of General Manager to assist the Club in the next stage of growth.
The role will require an experienced leader with a strong understanding and knowledge of the golf environment and the Club industry generally. The successful applicant will report to the President and the Club’s Board of Directors and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Club, ensuring that all areas operate at maximum potential.
The Club is currently operating successfully, however, the Board welcomes a fresh perspective and a focus on developing the Club’s revenues away from just the business of golf.
Selection Criteria
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide strong leadership with a focus on delivering quality customer service,
- A strategic focus, with successful development and execution of strategic and annual business plans,
- Financial, Administration, and project management,
- Promoting the game of golf,
- Gaming management,
- Food and beverage management,
- Driving growth in functions, events, and corporate golfing activities,
- Oversight of marketing, promotions, and communications.
The successful applicant must demonstrate that they possess the following skills and attributes:
- Proven experience in a senior management role,
- Proven financial management skills,
- Experience in the management and quality delivery of hospitality, golf, and/or leisure facilities and services,
- Highly developed communication and reporting skills,
- Computer literacy and an understanding of multiple IT programs that the Club utilises, including digital marketing initiatives,
- General knowledge of Agronomy and its application to golf courses,
- General knowledge of Golf and Professional Shop operations,
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure,
- A friendly, independent, and motivated person who will market and promote the club using innovative ideas.
Qualifications
The candidate would ideally hold Tertiary qualifications in Business or Commerce (or equivalent). However, applicants who can demonstrate relevant experience in a similar role or industry will also be considered.
You will need to be eligible or currently hold the following:
- Working with Children Check
- NSW driver’s licence
- Liquor Approved Manager Licence
- Current RSA and RCG Certificates
Remuneration
We can offer flexibility with respect to working hours, however, weekend work will occasionally be required given the nature of golf itself.
A very competitive remuneration package will be negotiated, directly relating to your qualifications, experience, and skills.
