Country Club Tasmania Unveils $20 million Facility Transformation

POSTED ON September 1, 2025 @ 5:35 pm

Country Club Tasmania, a cornerstone of the Launceston community, proudly announced the name of its new 18-hole course, Championship Golf Course, a title that speaks to its elite design and the resort’s ambition to host top-tier golfing events. This unveiling comes as part of a $20 million transformation, with the course slated to open in the summer of 2026.

The announcement was made by a familiar face and a proud local, Ricky Ponting. The celebrated Australian sporting figure and new ambassador for the course spoke from the heart about the project. “Growing up in Launceston, Country Club was always part of the local landscape, a place where sport, community, and good times came together,” Ponting said. “To now be part of its next chapter as ambassador for the new Championship Golf Course is a real honour”. He added that the course is “world-class” yet “Tasmanian through and through,” expressing his excitement for golfers from all over to experience it.

The new course is more than just a place to play; it’s a meticulously crafted experience. Renowned course architect

Robin Gibson designed the layout, drawing inspiration from iconic courses in North America and the UK. He has woven the course seamlessly into the natural Tasmanian landscape, incorporating century-old trees, stone bridges, creeks, and lakes. The design features strategic bunkering and undulating greens, creating a visually stunning and technically challenging experience.

Bryce Gorham, Head of Golf at Country Club Tasmania, calls it a “thinking golfer’s course”. “Every hole asks a question, every shot demands a decision,” Gorham explained. “It’s tough, yes, but fair, and it’s the kind of layout that keeps you coming back, trying to master it”. This commitment to excellence honors a long-standing tradition. The name “Championship Golf Course” pays tribute to the venue’s history as a premier golf destination, a legacy that began with the original course designed by Australian golf legend Peter Thomson and architect Michael Wolveridge in 1982.

The golf transformation doesn’t stop at the 18-hole course. Country Club Tasmania recently launched The Range, a dynamic golf entertainment precinct designed to be enjoyed by everyone. The new precinct features a  28-bay driving range with Toptracer technology, an 18-hole mini-golf course, and a clubhouse bar and restaurant. This expansion redefines the Tasmanian golf experience, ensuring there’s something for everyone, from elite players to families and casual visitors.

Located just ten minutes from Launceston’s CBD, Country Club Tasmania is a leading resort destination that offers 4.5-star accommodation, a casino, restaurants, horse riding, and a health club, all nestled in native bushland.
