About the Club

Christchurch Golf Club is one of New Zealand’s most iconic and historic golf clubs. Founded in 1873, it’s the second-oldest club in the Southern Hemisphere. With an 18-hole championship course, modern facilities, and a community of around 700 members, it’s proud of its rich legacy — and committed to evolving to meet the needs of future generations.

The Club is looking for a strategically minded, operationally savvy, people-focused General Manager to lead the Club into its next chapter.

This is an exciting time to join – with a committed Board, strong membership, stable financial foundation, and a clear long-term strategy, the Club is well-positioned for continued growth and innovation.

The Role

Reporting to the Board, the General Manager is responsible for fostering a shared vision amongst staff and members, enhancing player experience (on and off the course), building financial resilience (through existing and new revenue streams), delivering sustainable operational outcomes and strengthening the Club’s presence within the community.

Central to the role is leading operations across hospitality, course management, and golf activities aligning day-to-day activity with the long-term strategic plan.

Ideal Person

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • be a highly skilled communicator and relationship builder, able to work collaboratively with the volunteer Board and members, uniting the Club around the vision.
  • have proven operational management experience with a record of implementing efficiencies and improving financial performance, knowing which levers to pull and when, while still maintaining exceptional hospitality and player experience.
  • know how to build an enduring, inclusive and relatable brand, while also respecting the Club’s history.
  • have proven experience developing alternative revenue streams and sustainable strategic community and corporate relationships.
  • create a positive and high-performing culture within your team that reflects the values of the Club.

In addition, you will have:

  • a solid background in hospitality at a senior level.
  • be digitally and technology savvy, able to make the most of digital tools and systems to improve club operations.
  • strong financial skills, experienced with business case preparation, setting budgets, reporting and performance tracking.\
  • Experience of membership-based organisations and or golf management with demonstrable knowledge of how to attract, retain and enhance membership experience would be an advantage.
  • A degree in business, hospitality, or a related field is desirable.

Benefits:

The remuneration package will include:

  • An annual salary
  • 10% annual bonus potential ties to KPIs
  • Full club membership valued at $3,500 pa
