Golf NSW Launches Ambitious ‘Driving the Game’ Strategy

POSTED ON October 27, 2025 @ 10:42 am

Golf NSW has unveiled its new strategic blueprint, “Driving the Game,” setting an ambitious long-term roadmap to lead, empower, grow, and inspire golf across New South Wales and the ACT. The plan is underpinned by a bold vision: “Golf is enjoyed anywhere, anytime, by everyone.”

The comprehensive strategy, which looks towards 2030 and beyond, reflects a commitment to building a sustainable and inclusive future for the sport, moving beyond traditional definitions of participation growth.

A Strategy Built by the Industry

Golf NSW CEO Stuart Fraser emphasized that the plan represents a profound commitment to reimagining the sport.

“This plan is about more than growing participation, it’s about reimagining what golf can be,” Mr. Fraser stated. “We’re focused on strengthening our clubs and communities, embracing innovation, and ensuring golf is accessible, inclusive, and inspiring for generations to come.”

The strategy was developed following extensive consultation with stakeholders across the golf industry and was facilitated by the sports and entertainment agency 54. Mr. Fraser highlighted that this collaborative process ensures the plan reflects a shared vision.

“It’s a strategy built by the industry, for the industry, one that reflects the shared vision of everyone involved in the game,” he added.

Four Pillars and Three Enablers

At the heart of the “Driving the Game” strategy are four key focus areas, supported by three critical organizational enablers designed to ensure its success and long-term viability.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Lead: Influencing the Australian golf industry through thought leadership, community recognition, world-class events, and elite player development.
  • Empower: Equipping clubs, volunteers, and partners with the tools necessary to grow the game and enhance the golf experience for everyone.
  • Grow: Increasing participation and engagement by connecting with new markets and providing exceptional experiences both on and off the course.
  • Inspire: Delivering fresh and engaging communications, promoting all forms of golf, and driving essential environmental sustainability initiatives.

Strategic Enablers:

  • Digital Transformation: Modernising Golf NSW’s digital systems to improve communication and innovation across the sport.
  • Revenue Diversification: Expanding commercial partnerships and new funding streams to ensure the organization’s long-term sustainability.
  • Organisational Development: Building internal capability and governance to effectively deliver on the ambitious strategic goals.

Leading the Pace of Change

Golf NSW Chairman Michael Medway called the plan a “pivotal moment” for the organization.

“’Driving the Game’ is about setting a clear and unified direction for the future,” Mr. Medway said. “It recognises that golf has evolved. It’s a sport for everyone, played in more ways and more places than ever before.”

He stressed that achieving the plan’s ambitious goals will hinge on collaboration across the entire golf ecosystem—clubs, players, volunteers, and partners.

“This plan ensures we’re not just keeping pace with change, but leading it,” Mr. Medway concluded.

Mr. Fraser echoed this message of unity: “We’re leading with purpose, collaborating across the industry, and celebrating the success of our golf community. Together, we can ensure golf thrives in every corner of NSW and the ACT.”

The full strategic plan is now available for review, marking the start of a new and dynamic era for golf in the region.
