Royal Hobart Golf Club Appoints Hawkes as New Director of Golf

POSTED ON November 24, 2025 @ 10:30 am

The Royal Hobart Golf Club has officially announced the appointment of Simon Hawkes as its new Director of Golf. Hawkes, a familiar figure at the club since his junior days, will commence his tenure on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, following his participation in this year’s Australian Open.

The prestigious role attracted a highly competitive field, drawing numerous applications from experienced golf professionals both within Australia and internationally.

Rigorous Selection Process

Following an extensive recruitment process that included initial screening and phone interviews, a panel interview was conducted with a select group of shortlisted candidates.

“Simon’s presentation, understanding of the Club’s direction, and focus on policy, procedure, and service consistency clearly aligned with our vision for the future of golf operations at Royal Hobart,” a club spokesperson stated.

A Wealth of Experience Returns Home

Hawkes brings significant experience from some of Australia’s leading golf clubs, including Barwon Heads, Ryde Parramatta, and Eastwood, as well as his most recent position at 7 Mile Beach.

His appointment marks a homecoming, having been a familiar face at Royal Hobart since his junior years. More recently, he has been actively involved in providing lessons and assisting in the Golf Shop, giving him an intimate understanding of the club’s operations and member base.

The club anticipates that Hawkes’s appointment represents “an exciting step forward in enhancing our golf experience for members and guests alike,” promising a new era of professionalism and consistent service in golf operations.
