Early works have commenced on a $10 million redevelopment of Carramar Golf Course following the appointment of Yanchep-based Hickey Constructions to deliver the major works.
The contract was awarded by the City of Wanneroo as part of a broader push to modernize municipal golf infrastructure in the area.
Key Features of the Upgrades
The project includes the construction of a new 33-bay undercover floodlit driving range equipped with automated ball distribution and collection systems.

Additional facility upgrades feature:
- A refurbished clubhouse incorporating a commercial kitchen, lounge, simulator and tuition room, and an outdoor deck overlooking the 18th green.
- Enhanced changeroom facilities.
- A dedicated electric cart storage facility.
Construction is already underway on the new cart shed, and temporary facilities are currently operating for the pro shop and hospitality services.
Local Impact and Community Reactions
Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken highlighted the decision to select a local firm for the project.
“This appointment highlights the strength and capability of our local business sector while ensuring this exciting project is delivered by a company that understands our community,” Ms. Aitken said.
Douglas Bailey, business operations manager for the course, also commented on the appointment.
“The appointment of such a highly reputable and local builder in Hickey Constructions mirrors our commitment to community engagement throughout the project,” Mr. Bailey said. “We look forward to working closely with Hickey Constructions over the coming months to provide a facility worthy of the local golfing community and beyond.”
Broader Upgrades at Marangaroo Golf Course
The Carramar project is part of a larger investment strategy by the City of Wanneroo, which also includes a planned $16 million redevelopment of the Marangaroo Golf Course.
The proposed Marangaroo upgrades include:
- A double-storey, 44-bay undercover driving range integrated with smart golf technology.
- A new clubhouse with a combined pro shop and updated changerooms.

The upgrades aim to enhance the experience for current golfers while attracting new players through modern technology.
The driving range at Marangaroo is currently closed—except on Sundays—for approximately four to five weeks to accommodate early-stage work. The main tender for the Marangaroo project is scheduled for announcement in the coming weeks, with construction expected to begin later this year.
