Honouring the Champions Behind the Course: Global ‘Thank a Superintendent Day’ Returns September 8
On Tuesday, 8 September 2026, the global golf community will unite to celebrate International ‘Thank a Superintendent Day’—an annual initiative dedicated to recognizing the skilled professionals who keep our courses playable, healthy, and pristine year-round.
Now in its sixth year as a unified global movement, the day is backed by major international course management associations representing over 31,000 turf professionals in 78 countries. From greenkeepers and superintendents to dedicated ground crews, these individuals are the unsung heroes of golf. Beyond shaping world-class playing surfaces, they serve as vital environmental stewards, preserving natural biodiversity, managing water resources, and protecting local ecosystems.
Golf Industry Group encourages clubs, members, and industry partners to take time this September to show appreciation for these hardworking teams.
Ways to Show Your Support:
- Say It in Person: Take a moment before or after your round to personally thank a member of the maintenance staff.
- Join the Online Movement: Share behind-the-scenes photos, videos, or appreciation messages on social media using #ThankASuper or #ThankAGreenkeeper.
- Host a Club Event: Organize a morning tea, breakfast, or team lunch to highlight your course maintenance crew.
- Feature Your Team: Use club newsletters, notice boards, and digital channels to spotlight the faces and efforts behind your facility’s conditioning.
While International Thank a Superintendent Day happens once a year, course teams work through early mornings and challenging weather every single day. A simple gesture of gratitude goes a long way toward building a culture of respect, recognition, and support across the game.
