$50m North Adelaide GC masterplan shared

POSTED ON March 4, 2025 @ 5:26 pm

A  $50 million redevelopment of the scenic North Adelaide Golf Course is in the planning stages after a confidential masterplan was quietly shared on the Adelaide City Council’s website ahead of Premier Peter Malinauskas announcing LIV Golf’s move to the city alongside golfing legend “the Great White Shark” Greg Norman.

The 2018 Adelaide City Council original masterplan outlined potential upgrades, including a fresh 18-hole layout, a two-storey clubhouse overlooking the River Torrens, and an impressive driving range. While the plan was put on hold in 2021 due to cost and land concerns, discussions have now resurfaced, with expectations that upgrades could be completed as early as 2027 or 2028.

The South Australian Government, with support from the Adelaide City Council – which has managed the golf course for over 100 years – is working to ensure that North Adelaide Golf Course remains publicly owned and operated throughout any redevelopment process.

With Greg Norman’s design firm at the helm of a brand new redevelopment plan, the upgrade is expected to include a top-tier 18-hole world-class championship course, a cutting-edge driving range, and premium practice facilities.

The concept design on the council website has artist’s impressions for a luxury clubhouse and event space that features a cantilevered section stretching out over the River Torrens (Karrawirra Pari), giving it a striking floating effect that blends modern architecture with the beauty of the riverfront.

A two-tier golf driving range was originally proposed, offering elevated views from the upper level, with high-tech bays designed to help golfers of all skill levels refine their swing. Additionally, an artist’s impression of a function centre showcases an underpass, allowing seamless access to new facilities and fairways.
