Alex Glasgow

Alex Glasgow, one of the Asia-Pacific region’s foremost experts on sports turf construction and maintenance projects, will share his knowledge during next week’s Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) Sustainability Series of webinars.

Soil testing webinar

In the second edition of the 2021 series, Glasgow, Technical Director of Agronomy at the New Zealand Sports Turf Institute (NZSTI), will make a presentation on Soil/Tissue Testing and Fertiliser Planning.

Sponsored by Suståne Natural Fertilizer Inc, the webinar will be broadcast on Thursday, March 4 at 10 am Singapore time.

Eric Lynge, the AGIF’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We’re delighted that Alex will be presenting on the topic of soil/tissue testing and fertiliser planning, which is of fundamental importance to turf managers and greenkeeping staff at all clubs in Asia.

“The NZSTI is acknowledged as a global leader in its field and was selected as the AGIF’s education partner in the development and implementation of our on-going Certificate in Greenkeeping programme, the purpose of which is to create viable consistent education for professionals seeking a career in turf management.”

Agronomic Services

In his capacity as Technical Director of Agronomy at the NZSTI since 2010, Glasgow is responsible for the overall development and management of the agronomic services provided by the Institute.

During his career, Glasgow has been involved in a wide range of sports turf construction and maintenance projects throughout New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific.

His specialist areas include sports field design; construction and maintenance; environmental and sustainability issues relating to sports turf; golf course construction and maintenance; golf course design and horse racing tracks.

As well as being a member of the Executive Committee of the Sports Turf Association of New Zealand, Glasgow acts as the Technical Editor of Turf Management Journal, an industry-leading technical publication.

Targeted at both turf and club management professionals, the AGIF Sustainable Series webinars feature respected speakers and presenters from around the world, all of whom are experts in their chosen fields.

Lynge said: “We’ve had an encouraging response to the resumption of the series and it remains the intention that topics will alternate between club management and turfgrass management.

“We’re lining up some exceptional, world renowned speakers who will present their respective topics with passion and authority and will leave an indelible mark on those who are fortunate enough to be in attendance.”

AGIF Sustainability Webinar Series

The 2021 series tees-off this week with Chris Gray, Head of Sustainability & Agronomy – Asia Pacific with The R&A, speaking on the subject of Sustainable Golf.

On March 11, Operating Your Golf Shop – Is it Right for Your Club? is the topic that will be addressed by Mark Bates, Director of Golf Operations at Singapore’s Laguna National Golf & Country Club.

In addition to the exchange of information, education/association credits can be gained in Club Management Association of America (CMAA), Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), PGA of America, PGA of Great Britain and Ireland, PGA of Japan and PGA of Australia. Attendance will be tracked and a certificate of attendance will be issued, pending attendance for a minimum of one hour on the webinar.
