ASIA: Sentosa Set for Landmark 50th Anniversary
Singapore: Award-winning Sentosa Golf Club (SGC) is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary in fitting style next year.
It was in 1974 that the Singapore club was inaugurated. Over the ensuing half-century, Sentosa Golf Club has established itself as one of the world’s foremost golfing establishments.
In commemoration of its standing as a venue for high-profile championships on both its Serapong and New Tanjong courses and the club’s rise to global prominence, planning is already under way for notable celebrations in 2024.
“While I can’t reveal all the details just yet, our 50th anniversary will be a landmark year for Sentosa Golf Club,” said Andrew Johnston, General Manager and Director of Agronomy at SGC, a Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
He added: “We are planning a series of special events, member initiatives, and course enhancements to celebrate this milestone.
“It will be a year filled with memorable moments and an opportunity to express our gratitude to all who have been part of our incredible journey. Stay tuned for exciting announcements!”
Last month, SGC’s Serapong Course was named the World’s Best Golf Course at the World Golf Awards.
The Singapore venue is the first golf club in Asia to win the accolade which has previously been claimed by Augusta National Golf Club, Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, the Old Course at St Andrews and Carnoustie Golf Links.
At the awards ceremony in Abu Dhabi, the Serapong Course, stage for this year’s LIV Golf Singapore, also retained its titles as the Best Course in Singapore and Best Course in Asia.
“Hosting the inaugural LIV Golf Singapore presented by Resorts World Sentosa was a milestone for the club, showcasing our ability to organise high-profile events and cementing our status as a championship venue,” said Johnston.
