Hamersley Public Golf Course Redevelopment Wins Prestigious UDIA WA Award

POSTED ON September 17, 2025 @ 12:13 pm

The City of Stirling’s $20 million redevelopment of the Stirling Leisure – Hamersley Public Golf Course has been honoured with a top award at the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) WA Awards for Excellence. The project was named the winner in the Social and Community Infrastructure category at the gala event held at Crown Perth on Saturday night.

The redevelopment, completed in December of last year, was praised by judges for setting a “benchmark for community-focused public infrastructure.” The project’s centerpiece is a state-of-the-art, two-story driving range featuring Inrange ball-tracking technology and simulation gaming. A new pavilion with a pro shop and a family-friendly bar, restaurant, and function space for 500 people has also been a key feature.

“This project is more than a standard golf course. It’s a vibrant community hub where people of all ages can come together to meet and connect,” the UDIA WA judges stated. “The project redefines what a golf course can be, bringing a broader audience to the sport and offering a family destination.”

This latest accolade follows a string of recent honours for the Hamersley Public Golf Course redevelopment, including:

  • 2025 National Awards for Local Government: Winner of the Productivity through Infrastructure category.
  • 2025 Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia WA Excellence Awards: Winner of three prizes, including the G.K. Watters Local Government Engineering Excellence Award for the best local government engineering project in the state.

City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin expressed his pride in the project’s success. “This latest recognition is another reminder that when we think big and aim high, we can deliver exceptional infrastructure for our community,” Mayor Irwin said. “The redevelopment transformed a tired old venue into a modern and incredibly popular destination for families and golfers alike.”

Since its opening in December, the venue has recorded 365,000 visits, with approximately 10 million balls hit at the new driving range. Mayor Irwin extended his congratulations to the project team, acknowledging their role in designing and delivering the successful new community hub.
