JOB: Assistant Manager – Patterson River Golf Club
An exciting opportunity exists for a suitably qualified candidate to join the team of one of Melbourne’s Southern Bayside’s leading golf clubs.
The Club
Founded in 1925, Patterson River Golf Club is a superb Sandbelt-inspired 18-hole golf course located in Melbourne’s Southern Bayside suburbs.
The picturesque course has been built around a 15-hectare lake system providing an attractive and natural setting with abundant birdlife. It features superb couch fairways, undulating pennlinks bent greens, guarded by an extensive array of bunkers, and provides a fair test of skill for all ranges of golfers. There currently is a course masterplan being undertaken which will improve the popular layout for members, guests, and locals alike.
With a golfing membership of 1200 members and approximately 60,000 golf rounds played annually, the licensed bar and club operate seven days a week and is a popular destination for events all year round. The grounds included a large function room with beautiful views overlooking the course which provides the perfect venue for Weddings, Special Celebrations, Corporate Seminars and Events.
The Role
The club is looking for a hands-on Assistant Manager who can immerse themselves in every aspect of the business and continue the growth that the club has enjoyed over the last few years. The successful applicant will assist in all facets of the operation including working with the course, clubhouse, administration, and the contracted pro shop departments. In this role, the individual would learn all aspects of club management and be included at the highest level in decision-making and delivery, as well as the potential of personal growth and career opportunity.
Reporting to the General Manager, the role requires consistent and courteous service to members and patrons and working autonomously across several corporate and operational areas.
The responsibilities will include:
As the Assistant Manager (2IC) you will be responsible for the day to day running of the club including:
- Working alongside the General Manager to deliver a quality experience for Members and their Guests.
- Staff management, rostering and training.
- The implementation of all practices and processes as determined by the Club to ensure efficient club operations;
- Responsibility for ensuring all members and guests have an exceptional experience whilst visiting the club.
- Stock control and ordering
- Working with all contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders to ensure seamless operations.
- Promotion of the course and clubhouse usage.
- Assistance in the implementation of the strategic direction of the Board of Directors and Match & Greens committee.
- Assist the General Manager / Accounts Manager in the preparation of budgets and financial management of the club.
- Induction of new members and the execution of membership subscriptions.
- Corporate Golf / Membership / Sponsorship delivery.
- Adherence to all relevant compliance.
The successful candidate should possess all or most of the following:
- Ability to assist leading staff and stakeholders.
- Highly motivated individual with the ability to become hands-on in every aspect of the business.
- Demonstrated ability for confidentiality, problem-solving, high-level customer service, initiative, and time management.
- Possess professional demeanour and excellent presentation / communication skills.
- Competent computer abilities, including golf and membership-specific platforms.
- Strong business acumen and willingness to grow the business.
- Appropriate academic/trade qualifications
- Experience in successfully leading a team
- RSA and OH&S Certificates
- Understanding that the role includes night and weekend work
- Understanding of financial and commercial information
- Knowledge of WH&S requirements and safe work practices
- Respectful of and co-operative with all stakeholders of the club including staff, management, members, guests and Board of Directors.
This is a Senior role within our facility which you will be reporting to General Manager and supported by administration and bar staff, all under governance from the Board of Directors.
An excellent salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant which includes 4 weeks annual leave plus support with further industry-accredited training.
