JOB: General Manager – Capel Golf Club

The role

The Golf Club Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Clubhouse, reporting to and collaborating directly with the Board of Directors.  The role of the General Manager is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Club and to manage the multitude of factors that will improve operations to ensure the Clubs appeal to members and guests. The Manager works through the Club President with the Board to implement the Club’s Vision, Purpose, and Values.

This position is being offered on a full-time basis, working a flexible roster including some weekends in order to have full oversight of the business. A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated.

About the club

Capel Golf Club is a private club with over 600 members which welcomes a growing number of green fee players and is closely connected with the local community. Capel Golf Club has an 18-hole championship golf course and a 10-bay undercover driving range with an indoor golf studio to do club fittings and lessons.

Capel Golf Club is located south of Bunbury, the gateway to South-West Western Australia and the Ferguson valley wine region.

The challenging 6,106 metre par 72 course is one of Western Australia’s most highly regarded country courses and a highlight of any golfing tour of the South West.  Our region is recognised for its abundance of natural beauty and as a club we are proud custodians of our land and surroundings.

Capel Golf Club is seeking a professional and enthusiastic General Manager for our Golf Club.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Lead a dedicated team to deliver a great golf experience.
  • Help grow the golf membership base and green fee-paying players.
  • Preparing and delivering reports on the Club’s operations to the Board of Directors, including financial results.
  • Providing support with PR, Marketing and Grant writing tasks.
  • Work closely with the President and Committee to set and implement our strategic objectives and optimise the club’s potential.
  • Planning and execution of operational, financial and people plans.
  • Co-ordinate back-of-house management, including stock management and rostering.
  • Recruitment and training of staff to build a high-performing, customer-focused team
  • Asset management, including oversight of facilities and equipment maintenance
  • Food and beverage management
  • Development of policies and procedures with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Effective management of workplace health, safety and environment
  • Develop and implement Workplace Health and Safety procedures, complying with up-to-date legislation, ensuring they are clearly communicated, effectively monitored, and regularly reviewed.
  • To liaise with Local and National golfing bodies.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Club Management or Business Management OR relevant experience in all aspects of Club operation, including finance, personnel, event planning and delivery, and food and beverage.

  • Strong communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Working knowledge of industry benchmarks and how to achieve them.
