Following the reluctant interstate relocation of our existing General Manager, an exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Golf Club management professional to lead our Club through the next phase of its growth commencing in early 2023.
Our member-based Club is experiencing exciting growth and is trading solidly. We are about to embark on the execution phase of a significant golf course and land redevelopment project as part of implementing our ambitious strategic plan. We strive to provide a professionally run and enjoyable environment for our 1000 members with our course seeing about 45,000 rounds of golf per year.
About the role:
Reporting to the Board, you will be responsible for the execution of the Club’s strategic plan and objectives, with a key focus on the implementation of the Club’s Harrison Golf Course Masterplan. The Course Masterplan involves a multi-million dollar investment in the redesign of Newcastle’s layout to facilitate the development of land that will provide ongoing income to the Club.
You will also be responsible for the successful delivery of the Club’s day-to-day operations in accordance with service expectations and the annual budget.
You will lead a team of 28 staff, with 4 direct reports under a recently adopted structure that has been established to underpin and support the Club’s continued growth. You will be a mentor to our existing team to further foster their growth and development as part of the Club’s succession planning.
You must have the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a small team. You should demonstrate a broad understanding of golf course management and agronomy practices, golf operations, food and beverage services, membership and waitlist management. It is critical that you have a strong understanding of business administration, with a commercial and financial background.
The successful candidate must enjoy an easy rapport with members, visitors and staff and be committed to providing outstanding and consistent communication that is prompt, relevant and on brand.
You will need:
- A high level of commercial acumen, integrity and professionalism
- Appropriate qualifications in a business or golf club management discipline (e.g. Bachelor degree or PGA IGI), or proven equivalent practical experience in the absence of formal qualifications
- Management experience in a high service level and semi-private member golf club environment
- An understanding of core golf club operations and key business drivers
- Ability to understand and develop financial reports
- Experience with the usual suite of Microsoft programs, MiClub, Xero and SwiftPOS
- Setup and use of technology for member presentations and meetings both in the clubhouse and on-line.
- Neat, tidy and professional personal presentation
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to lead a team and to liaise and work along side the Club’s Board of Directors
- Experience developing policies, procedures, and training staff
- Equipment and asset management experience
- Event management experience
- Liquor Licencing experience
- Contractor management experience
- To be available to work a flexible roster including some weekend work
