Norm Spitzig talks club management on Private Club Radio
Norm Spitzig of Master Club Advisors, who toured Australia with Gregg Patterson earlier this year, has once again shared his insights into club management on the golf industry broadcast Private Club Radio.
Internationally recognised as an eloquent and visionary expert on private club operations and governance, Spitzig visited Australia in May this year for the week-long road show ‘Universal Life Lessons Learned in the Wonderful World of Private Golf Clubs’ which was managed by Golf Industry Central.
Prior to his visit Down Under, Spitzig shared some ‘golden nuggets’ with the audience when appearing on the radio show’s most listened to episode, and was invited back last month for an encore appearance to discuss the critical components of great private clubs.
In the popular podcast’s latest episode Spitzig highlights the importance of golf club’s strategic planning and evaluation.
“For me it was always a labour of love trying to understand what really makes a private club great,” he said.
“If you have a strategic plan I’m convinced that you will have a lot of benefits to you club; financial, social and everything.
“A strategic plan is pretty simple…it’s a systematic program for thoughtful controlled changes of clubs, over a period of time, typically three to five year.”
The distinguished guest also revealed what characteristics make a great leader and shared his list of top four ways that private clubs can successfully market themselves.
“I had the good fortune to travel around the world and see a lot of clubs and meet with a lot of boards and do a lot of things,” he said.
“I’m always interested in trying to understand what clubs are successful in attracting and maintaining their members.”
