NZ: Fire Guts Frankton Golf Centre Building

POSTED ON December 15, 2025 @ 10:41 am

The clubhouse at the Frankton Golf Centre has been destroyed by fire, prompting an investigation into the cause.

Fire and Emergency NZ (FENZ) crews from Frankton and Queenstown arrived at the scene around 6:30 pm yesterday, finding the blaze “fully involved,” a spokesman confirmed today. All people were accounted for, fortunately.

While a fire investigator is on-site, there is no indication of the cause at this stage. It took crews approximately an hour to extinguish the fire and secure the area.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC), which manages the facility, announced the driving range would be closed until further notice. However, the golf course remains open, with bookings required to be made online. Customers with lessons booked are advised to contact Jamie or Inspire Golf.

Inspire Golf Queenstown, which operates the pro shop and driving range, posted online that their “best little golf shop is a little bit burnt” and confirmed that no one was hurt.

A witness told the NZ Herald that the fire was believed to have started inside one of the recently renovated buildings. QLDC stated it cannot provide further comment while FENZ carries out its investigation, though the Mayor and local councillors have been informed.
