Placing Sustainable Golf in the Spotlight

POSTED ON February 24, 2021 @ 9:01 pm

Chris Gray Chris Gray will highlight some of the most pressing matters facing golf in the 21st century when the Asian Golf Industry Federation’s (AGIF) Sustainability Series resumes this month.

For the first webinar of 2021, it’s fitting that Sustainable Golf is the title of the presentation that will be delivered by Gray, Head of Sustainability & Agronomy – Asia Pacific with The R&A.

Sponsored by Profile Products and Sustane, the webinar will be broadcast on Thursday, February 25 at 4 pm Singapore time.

Gray said: “The webinar will highlight The R&A’s sustainability initiatives, and discuss the principles for sustainable course development and management.”

Sustainability experts

Eric Lynge, the AGIF’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “Based on the positive feedback we received with our Sustainability Series of webinars last year, we’re delighted to tee-off our offerings in 2021 with a topic that is central to all of us in the golfing industry.

“We’re pleased also to have one of the region’s best-known and most respected agronomists and sustainability experts in Chris Gray to make this important presentation.

“Understanding and applying sustainable practices is applicable to every club, and all their staff.”

Hailing from the Australian State of Victoria, Gray has more than 30 years of knowledge and experience having worked extensively as an agronomic consultant, golf course superintendent and golf course project manager in the Asia-Pacific, Central Asia and Middle East regions.

Before assuming his Singapore-based role at The R&A last year, Gray held the position of Director of Agronomy and Golf Redevelopment at The Singapore Island Country Club and has been an agronomic consultant on a number of PGA Tour, European Tour and LPGA tournaments in the region.

Gray has also acted as a Board Member of the AGIF, playing an active part in the growth and development of the Federation.

Sustainability experts

Lynge said: “Targeted at both turf and club management professionals, our webinars feature respected speakers and presenters from around the world, all of whom are experts in their chosen fields.

“For the next two months we are aiming to stage the Sustainable Series webinars at the same time each Thursday. It’s the intention that topics will alternate between club management and turfgrass management.

“We’re in the process of lining up some exceptional, world renowned speakers who will present their respective topics with passion and authority and will leave an indelible mark on those who are fortunate enough to be in attendance.”

In addition to the exchange of information, education/association credits can be gained in Club Management Association of America (CMAA), Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), PGA of America, PGA of Great Britain and Ireland, PGA of Japan and PGA of Australia. Attendance will be tracked and a certificate of attendance will be issued, pending attendance for a minimum of one hour on the webinar.
