Sanctuary Cove Sweeps Top Honours at 2025 Queensland Golf Industry Awards

POSTED ON October 16, 2025 @ 6:09 pm

Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club was the star performer, taking home four major trophies—including the night’s most coveted award—at the 2025 Queensland Golf Industry Awards held at The Star Gold Coast. The annual event celebrated the outstanding efforts of individuals and facilities across the state’s golf industry.

More than 400 guests gathered to acknowledge the champions and tireless contributors who shape Queensland golf, with a spotlight on those working at the grassroots level.

Sanctuary Cove Dominates Metropolitan Category

Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club secured the top honour, the Most Outstanding Queensland Club, Facility or Place to Play (Metropolitan) award. The club’s winning streak continued with the PGA Legends Tournament of the Year gong for the Sanctuary Cove Legends Pro-Am. Adding to their success, Tim Bray, Membership and Leisure Golf Manager, was named Golf Club Staff Member of the Year.

Golf Icon Peter Senior Honoured

Australian golf legend Peter Senior received a standing ovation as he accepted the prestigious Services to Golf Award.

A winner of 21 Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia events across five different decades, Senior expressed his gratitude and humility upon receiving the recognition.

“None of what I have achieved in the game would have been possible without the support of my wife, June, our children and our entire family,” said Senior. “I’ve been playing professionally for 45 years now and I’ve enjoyed the game immensely. I hope I’ve made a difference in some part.”

Recognition for Hard-Working Superintendents

The night also shone a light on the crucial role of course superintendents, especially following a challenging year of weather conditions across many Queensland clubs.

Dave Morrison received the emotional Superintendents Industry Recognition Award after a career spanning more than 25 years. Other major turf awards included Nathan Baker (Byron Bay Golf Club) as Golf Course Turf Apprentice of the Year, Ray Lawrence (Nudgee Golf Club) with the Golf Course Assistant Superintendent Achievement Award, and Luke Helm (Meadowbrook Golf Club) for the Superintendents Achievement Award.

New Awards and High Achievers

Two new awards debuted this year, with Townsville Golf Club earning the inaugural Women and Girls in Golf Award and Windaroo Lakes Golf Club securing the first Get Into Golf Venue of the Year award.

Other key winners included:

  • Asha Flynn being named Coach of the Year (Game Development) for the third consecutive year.
  • The Brisbane Golf Club winning Junior Golf Program of the Year.
  • Dominic Azzopardi taking out Coach of the Year (High Performance).
  • Darren Richards (Nudgee Golf Club) receiving the Distinguished Manager Award.

The event was a collaborative effort by The PGA of Australia, Golf Australia, Golf Management Australia, and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Queensland, with thanks extended to all event sponsors for their valued support.
