Portarlington Golf Club to roll out a $1.5 million redevelopment
PORTARLINGTON Golf Club will roll out a $1.5 million redevelopment after getting the green light to add 10 new poker machines to its venue.
Despite opposition from the Geelong council and church groups, the Victorian gambling commission backed the golf club’s bid to increase its gaming capacity from 55 to 65 machines.
The 10 pokies will be sourced from the Geelong Football Club, which removed 100 machines as part of its $90 million Brownlow Stand redevelopment.
Club CEO Ron Stockdale told the hearing that the new machines would allow an expansion and upgrade of the social rooms.
The stage two works would start within 24 months and would include:
— an extension of the bistro, adding an extra 100 seats;
— creation of a soft lounge, with about 24 seats;
— new equipment and upgrades for the bar and bistro; and
— relocation of the offices and TAB area.
Construction has already begun on extending the Pro Shop, which is due to be finished by the end of the year.
