Ryan Fox Pledges $1,000 Per Bogey-Free Round to Global Climate Initiative

POSTED ON May 19, 2026 @ 1:53 pm

Kiwi golf professional Ryan Fox is leveraging his performance on the green to drive environmental change, pledging a significant financial commitment to decarbonize the future of sport.

New Zealand golfer Ryan Fox has announced a performance-based climate pledge for the 2026 season. The Kiwi pro, son of All Black legend Grant Fox and a regular competitor on the PGA and DP World Tours, has committed to donating $1,000 for every bogey-free round he records this year.

The initiative, titled “Foxy One, Carbon Zero,” is part of the broader Sport One, Carbon Zero (SOCZ) movement. Backed by more than 100 professional athletes, including Olympic gold medalist Hamish Kerr and tennis star Lulu Sun, the movement is powered by High Impact Athletes, a charity founded by Olympians Marcus Daniell and Hugo Inglis.

“Ryan Fox’s model is simple. A clean scorecard funds real-world climate action.”

Funding Systemic Change

Unlike traditional carbon offsetting programs that focus on past emissions, SOCZ targets the primary drivers of sports-related carbon footprints: aviation, maritime shipping, stadium infrastructure, and energy.

The funds contributed by Fox and his supporters are routed to four organizations vetted by Giving Green:

  • Opportunity Green: Aviation and shipping policy.
  • Clean Air Task Force: Zero-carbon fuels and grid innovation.
  • Future Cleantech Architects: Low-carbon cement and steel for stadiums.
  • Project InnerSpace: Next-generation geothermal energy.

Breaking the Silence

The program aims to provide athletes with a data-driven way to lead on climate issues without the fear of being labeled hypocrites due to the high-travel nature of professional sports. By focusing on policy work and technological breakthroughs, Fox is pioneering evidence-based leadership within the industry.

Supporters can join the effort by pledging a custom amount per bogey-free round or making one-off donations via the SOCZ platform.
