Golf NSW Acquires Bingara Gorge to Create A Championship Destination
Metro Property Development (Metro) has officially confirmed the sale of the Bingara Gorge Golf Course to Golf NSW, a move set to transform the Wilton region into one of the state’s premier golfing and lifestyle destinations.
The 90-hectare site features a par-72, 18-hole championship course designed by the renowned Graham Marsh. Stretching 6,690 metres at its maximum length, the course is widely regarded as one of South West Sydney’s most technically impressive and scenic sporting assets.
Infrastructure and Strategic Vision
The sale encompasses the full 18-hole course and all associated infrastructure. As part of the agreement, Metro will deliver two new golf bridges, with construction slated to begin in mid-2026 and completion expected by mid-2027.
Metro’s Managing Director, Luke Hartman, noted that the sale aligns with the company’s strategy of partnering with specialist operators to enhance community assets.
“Metro is a residential developer and our focus has always been on finding the right partners to operate important amenities,” Hartman said. “Golf NSW brings the vision, expertise and ambition needed to take this world-class course to its fullest potential, reinforcing Bingara Gorge as the premier community in South West Sydney.”
Hartman further explained that the selection of Golf NSW followed extensive discussions with industry leaders. “Golf NSW has been looking for the right asset for some time and Bingara Gorge presented the ideal alignment. Their aspiration to elevate the course to championship standard… will significantly benefit the community and the broader region.”
A Hub for Development and Tourism
Golf NSW plans to establish a significant presence at the site, including an administration office, event operations, and high-performance training facilities. These will be situated within the clubhouse precinct on The Irons Drive, alongside the future hotel and “The Wilton” country club.
Golf NSW Chief Executive Officer Stuart Fraser emphasized the inclusivity of their vision for the site.
“Bingara Gorge offers a rare opportunity to secure a premium course in one of the state’s fastest growing regions,” Fraser said. “Our vision is to enhance the course to championship level, whilst offering an accessible, fun and inclusive experience for golfers of all standards and demographics.”
Wollondilly Mayor Matt Gould welcomed the transition, noting the potential for a significant boost to local tourism and the positioning of the Wilton Growth Area as a regional centre.
“This will open up a range of opportunities, including major golfing events, which will increase tourism to the Wollondilly Shire,” Mayor Gould said. “Importantly, it will also provide inclusive golf opportunities for our local and broader community.”
Community Impact and Continued Operations
For current residents and players, Metro confirmed that golf operations will continue as normal during the transition period, and the course will remain open to the public. While Golf NSW will determine future membership arrangements, the move is expected to bolster property appeal.
“Having a top-tier operator overseeing the course ensures residents will continue to enjoy a beautifully maintained and highly regarded facility,” Hartman added.
The sale comes as the broader 1,800-lot Bingara Gorge masterplan nears completion. Currently home to 5,000 residents, the community features over 200 hectares of open space, the Pulse Fitness Club, and a future Coles-anchored shopping centre.
Further details regarding specific course upgrades and operational timelines from Golf NSW are expected to be released shortly.
