The Royal Hobart Golf Club has the opportunity you have been waiting for as the head of our golf operations, Director of Golf. This position requires a strong background in golf management, with at least 5 years of experience in a similar role at a golf club. You will deliver exceptional service and enhance the member and guest experience at a facility with a rich history, ingrained in the Tasmanian culture.

About the Club

Royal Hobart Golf Club was formed in 1916 and has resided at Seven Mile Beach since 1963. It maintains a rich history, from hosting the 1971 Australian Open (won by Jack Nicklaus) to being the home of the likes of Peter Toogood & Lindy Goggin.

Long considered Tasmania’s premier members’ club, Royal Hobart is situated only 20kms from the city and 5 minutes from the Hobart airport. Constructed on sandy soil with gently contoured, well-conditioned fairways and greens which are protected by extensive bunkering. The grounds are in excellent condition throughout the year, making it a must-play destination when visiting Tasmania.

About the Role

You will enjoy being the leader and face of Golf Operations, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with all departments while overseeing all golf operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing all golf operations, including competitions, corporate golf, and hiring of equipment.
  • Managing staff training, development, and scheduling.
  • Ensuring all golf operations align with the Club’s procedures and policies, maintaining a close working relationship with the Superintendent.
  • Driving Member Engagement, as the Golf Shop is the first point of contact, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for members and guests while ensuring high levels of satisfaction.
  • Ensuring all golfing events, including Corporate Golf Days, run effortlessly with clear communication to all departments.
  • Overseeing the teaching and coaching team.
  • Managing the fitting and selling of equipment and general retail operations.

About You

You are a driven, proactive leader with a deep understanding of golf operations and a proven ability to deliver first-class service in a busy, member-focused environment.

You bring:

  • Proven experience in golf operations, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior/leadership role at a golf club (PGA qualifications are beneficial but not mandatory).
  • Strong understanding of golf competitions and events, ideally using Miclub software.
  • Strong understanding of the retail side of the business, with knowledge of current industry trends.
  • Strong people skills, with a focus on relationship-building and engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to focus on the member/guest experience while actively promoting the game of golf.

Why Join Royal Hobart Golf Club?

  • Competitive salary package, including training and development.
  • Opportunities for professional development and continuing education, including PGA & Golf Management Australia conferences, workshops, and seminars.
  • A supportive and collaborative work environment.
  • Access to Club facilities, including membership.

How to Apply

If you’re ready to step into a key leadership role and help shape the future of Tasmania’s premier members’ club, we’d love to hear from you.

Please submit your application, including a cover letter outlining your vision for the role and how you can contribute to Royal Hobart Golf Club, along with your resume. Applications without the required cover letter will be unsuccessful.
