Nambour Golf Club Appoints Dobson as New General Manager

POSTED ON October 13, 2025 @ 11:35 am

Nambour Golf Club has announced the appointment of golf industry veteran, Ben Dobson, as the club’s new General Manager.

Dobson, who holds a Bachelor of Sports Tourism Management, brings a distinguished track record to the role. He previously served as General Manager of Headland Golf Club for 12 years and, most recently, was the Operations Manager at Maroochy River Golf Club. During his tenure at Headland Golf Club, the club was twice named Queensland Golf Club of the Year and achieved the second-highest ranking in the state for member satisfaction.

“Ben has a proven track record, and we are very fortunate to have someone of his skills and experience become part of our club,” says Club President Peter Black.

Transition Plan and Operations Role Created

Due to personal circumstances, Dobson will commence his new position in May/June 2026. To facilitate this timeline and ensure continuity, the club’s outgoing General Manager, Steve McMahon, has graciously agreed to postpone his retirement and remain in the role until Dobson’s start date. Beginning at the end of October, Steve will transition to a part-time schedule, working three days a week while utilising annual and long service leave for the remaining two.

To further strengthen the management team and support club operations during the transition and into the future, Nambour Golf Club has created the new position of Operations Manager with Simon Hughes has been appointed to this new role, effective immediately. A long-term Sunshine Coast resident and lifetime golfer, Hughes brings a strong background in management and marketing, with qualifications in Hospitality, Business Management, and Marketing. Hughes will continue in his role after Dobson commences as General Manager.

“These appointments are an excellent outcome for our Club,” the spokesperson added. “Both Ben and Simon have been highly recommended to us by prominent local business people who are well-versed with Nambour Golf Club.”

The club also extended its profound gratitude to Steve for his commitment. “We cannot thank Steve enough for the incredible sacrifice he is making. To put his retirement on hold is only further proof that his commitment and passion for the job can never be questioned.”

The Nambour Golf Club membership and guests can look forward to a seamless transition and a strengthened management structure with the appointments of Ben Dobson and Simon Hughes.
