Want to improve your long game? Drive home sun protection
Every year in NSW alone, more than 46,000 new cases of cancer are expected to be diagnosed, and the impact on families, carers and communities is significant.
Adult males are a priority group to target for increasing skin cancer prevention behaviours, and due to the high levels of sun exposure, it’s especially important to use sun protection if you’re a golfer!
Improve Your Long Game is a program encouraging NSW golfers to use sun protection and reduce their risk of skin cancer. The program aims to increase peer-to-peer engagement among male golfers aged 40-64 and to build a sun protection ‘culture’ within a recreational setting.
Cancer Council NSW believes that they can and will beat cancer. Together with their volunteers, supporters, stakeholders and staff, CCNSW are committed to reducing the impact of cancer on individuals and the community, and to lessening the burden for people affected by cancer.
In NSW, over the age of 40, men are 1.5 times as likely to develop melanoma and twice as likely to die from it as women of a similar age, and there is a lack of awareness that sun protection can help reduce the risk of developing skin cancer as some believe that it is too late to make a difference OR that sun damage is already done.

Improve Your Long Game aims to continuously raise awareness that engaging in sun protection behaviours at any age reduces your skin cancer risk, with a particular emphasis on the application and reapplication of sunscreen during a round of golf.
