Australian PGA Member Derek Hooper Ambassador for My Golf Daily
So far it has been a hectic year for Australian PGA member Derek Hooper who is not only tackling a new position as Director of Instruction at Royal Oaks Country Club in Houston, but has also recently been nominated as an ambassador for My Golf Daily.
In his new role Hooper will, alongside Hank Haney, Michael Breed and a few other well know golf instructors, provide content to the educational site aimed at helping golfers to improve their game and share their passion for the sport.
“In the following weeks I will be adding new content that you have not seen before all with the sole purpose of helping you to play better golf on the golf course,” Hooper announced in his most recent newsletter.
“While I was at Lake of Isles I had the opportunity to spend some time with Hank Haney and his management from Octagon Sports. The launch of My Golf Daily and the Ultimate Golf Winner is an opportunity to work with these two professionals whom I hold in very high regard.
“I am excited to be included with such an illustrious group of professionals.”
The US based website features a mix of news articles, golf instructions and tips, plus the opportunity to win daily prizes and the amazing grand winnings including a day of lessons or golf with a PGA Professional.
Hooper is recognized as one of the top instructor in the state of Texas by Golf Digest, and specializes in working with students on their entire game – technical, mental and physical.
“One of the main reasons I was hired was that the Club was looking to add structure to their instruction program and build it to be recognized as one of the best in Houston. This is an area which I have experience in creating structured Junior Programs, Ladies and Coaching Programs. I have started to implement these and the response has been fantastic,” Hooper said.
“Our goal is to add a teaching building in the near future and having been involved with two such build outs in the past, I am looking forward to taking all I learned from those other projects and going through the process again.
“I am very excited by the opportunities that exist at Royal Oaks Country Club. The change from my last facility being a Resort to the private club atmosphere is a change but the management team and membership have been extremely welcoming and supportive that it has made the transition much easier.”
Growing up in Australia, Hooper completed his PGA training after graduating with a degree in Sports Science and Teaching from the University of Queensland. He then went on to play golf competitively on Australian mini Tours for a few years before returning to his true passion of coaching.
Prior to his current position at Royal Oaks, Hooper spent eleven years as the Director of Instruction at the Troon Golf Academy at Lake of Isles in Connecticut.
